Stupid comment of the week
Did you read about the teacher in Rio Rancho, New Mexico who was "disciplined" for making stupid comments to a black student? The black student wore a Santa hat and beard to school. The teacher said, "Why are you wearing that? Don't you know Santa is white?" Once again, we do not know the nature of the teacher's "discipline."

To be honest I hadn't heard and it's hard to discern who was in the wrong with so little context. What do you thin?k? Can you say a little more?
First, let me admit that I failed to link to the story, which was on an Albuquerque television station. Let me also admit that the media always seems to have an agenda, and the story may be inaccurate in some respects. We don't know.
My reaction to this story is heavily influenced by the experiences my daughter has had, living just north of Rio Rancho. Other students often make fun of some aspect of her appearance, such as her nose, lips, or hair. Adults should know better than to make comments about skin color, even if joking.
