General John Kelly

At Breitbart Charlie Spiering brings us more information about Marine General John Kelly, Trump's pick to run the Department of Homeland Security.

Four-star Gen. John Kelly had a 45-year career in the Marines which included three tours in Iraq and leading the United States Southern Command before he retired in January 2016.

“Bombing the living shit out of ISIS in Iraq and Afghanistan, Syria, that would maybe irritate them more than the fact we have Guantanamo open,” he said to Defense One about terrorist groups and activists who believed that keeping the prison open was a propaganda tool for terrorists and a threat to national security.

Kelly lost his 29-year-old son, Marine 1st Lt. Robert Michael Kelly, killed while serving in Afghanistan. Four days later he gave a speech about those who serve our country.

“Like my own two sons who are Marines and have fought in Iraq, and until this week, Afghanistan, they are also the same kids that drove their cars too fast for your liking and played the god-awful music of their generation too loud,” he said. “But have no doubt they are the finest of their generation.”

Homeland Security?

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued thousands of duplicate green cards to immigrants, including many that include incorrect information and allow these individuals to stay longer than permitted in the United States, according to a new government oversight report that warns the Department of Homeland Security is incapable of tracking immigrants who may pose a security risk to the United States.

USCIS, which handles immigration cases and the distribution of green cards, was found to have produced at least 19,000 green cards during the past three years that were duplicates or contained incorrect information, according to a new report by the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general.

During the same period, more than 200,000 green card holders reported their cards missing and an increasing number of cards were sent to incorrect addresses, posing a risk to national security.

“In the wrong hands, Green Cards may enable terrorists, criminals, and illegal aliens to remain in the United States and access immigrant benefits,” according to the oversight report, which disclosed that green card errors cost taxpayers $1.5 million in 2015.

“Responding to card issuance errors has also resulted in additional workload and corresponding costs, as USCIS spent just under $1.5 million to address card related customer inquiries in fiscal year 2015,” according to the report.

73 persons on the terrorist watch list are currently working at US airports.

Mark Steyn writes this report on hosting Rush Limbaugh's show last Tuesday:

I began by noting the recent debacle at the TSA. Not content with a 96 per cent failure rate when it comes to detecting prohibited items, the TSA was also entirely unaware that 73 persons on the terrorist watch list are currently working at US airports. These are the guys you see at the airport zipping straight past the security line - the baggage handlers and bathroom cleaners and concession-stand employees, the fellows with the security badges that enable them to bypass the downtrodden throng of bedraggled Americans shuffling shoeless past the federal genital-gropers. And 73 of the guys with those security passes are on the terrorist-watch list. They're the "known wolves" - the ones who, after the atrocity, are revealed to have been in the official databases all along, as with the Boston Marathon bombers and the panty bomber and the fellows who wanted to kill Pamela Geller in Texas. Seventy-three known terror suspects managed to get jobs at US airports. I wonder how many would-be terrorists not known to the watch-list compilers are also gainfully employed at O'Hare and LAX and the rest.

I would have liked to have heard what the homeland-security honchos had to say for themselves at today's scheduled Senate hearing, but about 40 minutes into the show the Senate hearing on security breaches at the TSA had to be evacuated because of a security breach. That's almost too perfect a summation of the Big Security State - except that 90 minutes later the White House press briefing room also had to be evacuated because of a "suspicious package".

It didn't last long, fortunately. The "suspicious package" turned out to be the President's missing ISIS strategy that someone had left in a brown paper bag under Helen Thomas' seat. But, as I said on the air, I couldn't recall the IRA ever pulling off the simultaneous evacuation of both Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.

We also explored The New York Times' latest Marco Rubio scandal du jour: It took him years to pay off hundreds of thousands of dollars of mortgage and student debt! Oh, and he once treated himself to an $80,000 speedboat! Everybody knows that, when a normal politician is hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, all he has to do is give one $700,000 speech on African diarrhea to a bunch of Saudi princes. As for the boat, David Jack Smith Tweeted:

You know if the NYTimes thought they could get away with it, they'd call Rubio: Speedyboaty Gonzales

...On the other hand, despite all their attention to Marco Rubio's stop-sign infractions, the Times in its remorseless forensic examination of candidate motoring records has absolutely no interest in this:

Mocking the NY Times for all the attention they've given Marco Rubio's driving record, Mark Steyn revealed something today from Hillary Clinton's past that should put the NY Times to shame for focusing so much on Marco Rubio's speeding tickets.

He explains how Clinton's limo driver, back in 2001, in what he calls a 'driving Miss Hillary' situation, crashed through an airport security fence at 35mph with her in the back, injuring a police officer and only stopping because the police officer needed medical treatment.

~And, of course, I noted bachelor presidential candidate Lindsay Graham's wish for a "rotating First Lady". We've all felt the need for one of those. And we chewed over the parlous state of free speech in the American academy, where "safe space" is a euphemism for "one-party state":

The 'safe space' is a totalitarianism concept and where cultures go to die. If you're wondering why free speech is on the rocks in the United States and around the free world it's because our children are being held hostage in the safe space the first 20 years of their life.

How to stop a lawless president

The courts are a very unlikely avenue for checking presidential lawlessness. The proper constitutional way to check the president’s executive order is for Congress to deny the funding needed to implement it. That is what Republicans in the House have done, by fully funding the lawful activities of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) but denying the funding for the unlawful executive amnesty. Democrats are blocking that legislation in the Senate, in the hope that, as the budget deadline approaches, the pro-Obama press (with regrettable help from George Will and Senator John McCain, among others) will convince the country that it is somehow the Republicans who are “shutting down” DHS.

...Homeland security in the United States is more than adequately provided for by the hundreds of billions of dollars that continue to be spent each year — and that Congress has already approved for this year — on the Justice Department, the FBI, the 17-agency intelligence community, the armed forces, and state and local police forces.

...Under Obama, the immigration law-enforcement components of DHS are not enforcing the immigration laws. Why should taxpayers expend billions of dollars on agencies that do not fulfill, and under this president have no intention of fulfilling, the mission that is the rationale for the funding?

In any event, as we await the next round in the courts, the speedy and certain way to stop a lawless president is to deny him the money he needs to carry out his designs.

Outrageous!

A Canadian disabled woman purchased tickets for a flight to New York and a Caribbean cruise sponsored by the March of Dimes. But a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent with the Department of Homeland Security denied her entry into the United States, because he had access to her medical records, which showed that she had been hospitalized in 2012 for treatment of depression.
