Tax reform, regulatory relief, and fair trade

Treasury Secretary Mnuchin answers questions from a CNBC host. There are three parts to the economic plan he is working on with President Trump: tax reform ("the most sweeping tax reform we've ever had"), regulatory relief, fair trade.

"It is not about tax avoidance. It is about creating opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses.

Why do more details? Because we want to get input from Congress and turn this into a bill.

We have not had tax reform in 30 years!

The Democrat congressional delegation, the one that a couple of months ago was all upset because President Trump talked on the phone with the leader of Taiwan, now wants Trump to punish the Chi-Coms for not doing more to control North Korea's dictator.

President Trump spoke with the leaders of Mexico and Canada.

President Trump agreed not to terminate NAFTA at this time and the leaders agreed to proceed swiftly, according to their required internal procedures, to enable the renegotiation of the NAFTA deal to the benefit of all three countries.

President Trump has a simple economic platform: “Buy American and Hire American“; toward that goal all economic and fiscal policies are now directed to assist U.S. manufacturing companies and retain U.S. workers. Period.

Two days ago Commerce Secretary Wilbur “Wilburine” Ross announced a 20% tariff, countervailing duties, on imported Canadian soft wood lumber. Today, Pleasant River Lumber Co. in Jackman Maine announces their wood mills will now expand as a direct result of the beneficial impacts of even trade practices.

Big focus on foreign policy

There will be a lot of focus on US foreign policy next week, beginning today with the NATO summit in Brussels, where Rex Tillerson addressed the group. Monday President Al Sisi of Egypt will be trump's guest. Al Sisi's friend Jordan’s King Abdullah II will meet with Trump and Tillerson on Wednesday. Then, on Friday Trump and T Rex host the entire China delegation of President Xi Jinping for the weekend in Mar-la-go, the Winter White House. Trump tweeted Thursday that he expects the China meeting to be difficult, since "we can no longer tolerate unfair trade balances and job losses."
