Have you ever heard of the term "glassed?" I had not, until I read this piece about women glassing a man in a movie theater in Glasgow. The man had asked the drunk women to keep their voices down during a screening of the movie 50 Shades of Grey. Urban Dictionary defines "glassed" as "to be assaulted or attacked with glass as the weapon."

Michael Bolton, 33, who had gone to Fifty Shades with his wife Yvonne, 32, said: “Besides being the worst film I have ever seen, three women were getting arrested and put in a police van when we arrived.

“A woman came out the theatre and said that a guy had been glassed.

“One woman was in handcuffs and another two women were in tears.

“She said that three or four girls had been very loud and were shouting. The man had asked them to shut up and he was glassed.

“It’s a cinema where you can buy drink.

“Only in Glasgow are police called to the cinema. This type of behaviour happens at pubs and nightclubs – but you don’t expect that at a cinema.

“The guys at the cinema were tidying up the blood before we were going in.

“They were wiping down seats before the start of the 8.20pm film.”

Is fantasy a reflection of true desire?

Last week everyone was talking about and going to see American Sniper. This week it is Fifty Shades of Grey. Chateau Heartiste notes that

If fantasy were not a reflection of true desire, then we wouldn’t see a near-universal preference among women for a particular type of sexual fantasy. We would instead see a million women have a million different fantasies completely severed from any actual feelings of lustful desire, and shlock like Twilight or 50 Shades which conform very closely to one or two specific female fantasy archetypes wouldn’t sell hundreds of millions of copy.

Or, to put it more poetically, a random female fantasy generator disconnected from real world desire should turn up at least a few instances of women fantasizing about being taken by Bob the beta accountant. Yet, in all the pulp romance ever written, scarcely any pursue that theme.
