Only two sexes?

Jon Caldera has been fired as a columnist for the Denver Post. His crime?
"My column is not a soft-voiced, sticky sweet NPR-styled piece which employs the language now mandated by the victim-centric, identity politics driven media," he said in a Facebook post. "What seemed to be the last straw for my column was my insistence that there are only two sexes and my frustration that to be inclusive of the transgendered (even that word isn’t allowed) we must lose our right to free speech."

Denver Post buyout packages

Corey Hutchins reports for the Colorado Independent,
Fearing job cuts, Denver Post journalists rally against their hedge fund owner.

...about 100 members of the newspaper’s labor union and community allies were rallying to bring attention to The Post’s parent company, Digital First Media, and its primary hedge fund owner, Alden Global Capital.

In April, DFM offered 26 buyout packages to newsroom staff. If everyone takes one, the newsroom of The Denver Post will have been slashed by one third in the past year alone. The deadline to accept the buyouts was Thursday, June 16.

Liberal Denver Post endorses Republican Cory Gardner for Senate

The Denver Post made news today. They came out with an editorial endorsing Republican Cory Gardner over incumbent Democrat Senator Mark Udall.

Apparently the Post was not impressed by Udall's war on women script:
Rather than run on his record, Udall's campaign has devoted a shocking amount of energy and money trying to convince voters that Gardner seeks to outlaw birth control despite the congressman's call for over-the-counter sales of contraceptives. Udall is trying to frighten voters rather than inspire them with a hopeful vision. His obnoxious one-issue campaign is an insult to those he seeks to convince.

For sale

Susan Greene notes that
one in three newspaper journalists in the U.S. have lost their jobs over the past decade. Circulation is half what it was ten year ago. Newspaper sales peaked at $49 billion in 2005. In 2013, sales dove to less than half that number, $22 billion.

The latest newspaper to go on the "for sale" block is the Denver Post. Greene writes:
Friday’s announcement comes as little surprise as the The Denver Post’s circulation, staff size and journalistic quality have dramatically waned. The paper’s newsroom is a skeleton of its former self, and many of its top staffers who have not been laid off in the past several years have jumped a ship they’ve felt is sinking.
