Finding a way to virtue signal

So, the movement was forced to look to people from 200 years ago to find someone they could somewhat credibly criticize for moral failings.

"We had a tough time finding people we could feel superior to that are currently living," said Leaf Rivers, a white BLM activist in Portland as he googled "how to tear down a statue if you don't have any muscles." "So, we were forced to turn to the archives. Sure enough, we feel a lot better about our own moral issues when we compare ourselves to the moral failings of people from centuries ago."

"It's the only way to keep any sense of self-righteousness."

"Look how much better we are than these people from hundreds of years ago!" the baby murder supporters shouted as a statue of Frederick Douglass came tumbling to the ground. Their virtue-signaling accomplished, they then returned to protesting for a woman's right to kill her unborn baby at any time for any reason.

Fair enough?

...The news about Klopfer isn’t exactly dry and boring. It’s shocking, dramatic, and highly compelling—all qualities television networks look for in their programming. What, then, explains their lack of interest?

It’s ideology, it’s culture, it’s newsrooms where generally pro-choice reporters and producers don’t see the big deal. Maybe they’ll eventually get around to reporting like WANE 15’s. But for now at least, Klopfer mostly remains just another one of those local crime stories.

HANFORD, CA—Authorities are looking for a woman who gave birth to a stillborn baby with toxic levels of methamphetamine in his system. "This is a complete horror," said Hanford Mayor Carl Eggburn. "She didn't even use calipers to rip the child to pieces like a decent human being."

"We have methods in order for this sort of thing. Like this brain-sucking vacuum. Why reinvent the wheel?" said Hanford superintendant Mario Waldorf.

Police obtained a murder warrant for the woman's arrest. "We couldn't really decide if this was murder or not because it was an unborn baby and all," said Sgt. Cornlock of Henford P.D. "We decided to do a coin toss. Heads, it's no biggie, tails, MURDER." The coin landed on tails.

"What she did is disgusting," said local doctor Margaret Helborn. "She spat in the face of the abortion industry."

The mother remains at large and is wanted for the first-degree murder of an unborn child without using a government-sanctioned murder tool.

Are the Democratic candidates abortion-loving radicals or just willing to play one?

In his Deplorable Touchdown blog, Fletch Daniels writes an excellent essay on abortion.

All the Democrat candidates still allowed to debate are petrified to cross Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups meaning they either are abortion-loving radicals or are willing to play one. In terms of the overall effect, there is no meaningful difference. The media representatives are doing everything in their power to mask this fact, even as Planned Parenthood and the candidates complain about it.

There’s something sick in America’s abortion industry. What else would account for a doctor who collected thousands of dead babies in some kind of twisted hobby that he hid from his allegedly unsuspecting wife?

Two thousand two hundred and forty-six fetuses were found "medically preserved" in Ulrich Klopfer’s garage last week after he died on Sept. 3. And now the attorneys general of Illinois and Indiana are investigating how the human remains got from Klopfer's network of Indiana abortion clinics to his rural Illinois home and what laws might have been violated.

Like Gosnell, Klopfer’' clinics shut down after state inspectors found worrying medical and record-keeping problems.

While Klopfer is not alleged to have been a murderer, his ethical standards appear not to have been very high. In defending himself and his clinics against state allegations, the Illinois physician recounted how he performed an abortion on a 10-year-old girl who was raped by her uncle, never reporting the crime to police and, as a result, helping her parents cover up the atrocity by a family member. State officials cited the sickening defense as part of their reason for stripping him of his medical license. He was previously charged with failing to report performing abortions on two 13-year-olds.

According to a complaint filed by the Indiana Medical Licensing Board, Klopfer worked in clinics in South Bend, Gary and Fort Wayne from 2012 to 2015.

With thousands of ghoulishly stored dead bodies straight out of a horror movie, medical malpractice and a multistate mystery, you’d think the news media would be all over this story. Not so much.

WALSH: Doctors Can Now Operate On Babies In Utero To Repair Birth Defects. Science Is Rendering Abortion Obsolete.

...technological advancements have precipitously lowered the age of "viability" for an unborn child. A couple of years ago, a baby was born at 21 weeks and lived. She is now a toddler in good health. An extremely premature birth used to be a certain death sentence. Today babies born before the third trimester routinely survive. And there is no reason to think that we have reached the limit. Eventually, there will be no such thing as a non-viable gestational age.

This is all quite awe-inspiring and wonderful — unless you are pro-abortion. These revolutions in medical technology are rendering the case for abortion more obsolete by the minute. Things have been tracking this way ever since the development of fetal ultrasounds, which gave us a window into the womb and revealed that the little human inside the uterus is indeed a little human. The introduction of fetal surgery yet again affirms this truth. Doctors would not be able to treat spina bifida in a clump of cells. They would not be able to repair birth defects in an inhuman mass of material. They can only conduct these delicate and complicated procedures because the patients are living human beings.

The claim that abortion is "necessary" has also suffered devastating blows. Of course, even without these medical marvels, it could never really be "necessary" to directly kill an innocent and defenseless human being. That is all the more the case now that any number of fetal defects and abnormalities can be treated. "Health of the mother" justifications are even less relevant, as women who experience catastrophic medical complications at any point from the middle of the second trimester onward can deliver and give both themselves and their children a chance to survive.

This is the position in which pro-aborts find themselves: rooting against life-saving scientific advancements. And this from the "compassionate," "pro-science" side of the aisle.

They must be "kept comfortable"

In USA Today, James Robbins writes,

A spate of new state abortion laws are attacking the framework established by Roe v. Wade from both sides of the spectrum. The flurry of litigation that is certain to follow may provide the Supreme Court with an opportunity to revisit the landmark 1973 case and potentially formulate new guidance on regulating the abortion industry.

Last week Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed into law a bill that could punish doctors who perform abortions with up to life in prison. This followed a law in Georgia that would make performing an abortion illegal once a heartbeat is detected, usually around 6 weeks. Similar laws have been passed in Ohio and Mississippi, and the Missouri House has passed a bill to ban abortions at the 8th week of pregnancy.

At the other end of scale, New York enacted a law that extended legal abortion into the third trimester in some circumstances. Virginia was also considering such a law, but it was tabled after its sponsor, Delegate Kathy Tran, admitted that under her proposed legislation a baby could be aborted even at the moment of birth. Virginia Democratic Governor and pediatric neurosurgeon Ralph Northam hardly helped matters when he explained that in such cases "the infant would be delivered” and “kept comfortable” while the decision was reached whether or not to kill it.

Critics say the Alabama law is clearly unconstitutional under Roe v. Wade, but its backers say that is the point. Gov. Ivey noted in her signing statement that the law was probably unenforceable but that the law “may bring about the best opportunity … for the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit this important matter.”

Yet even the late term abortion laws could be tossed out under the logic of Roe. While the Supreme Court made legal first term abortions, it specifically rejected the argument that pregnancies could be terminated “at whatever time, in whatever way, and for whatever reason” the mother chooses. The “compelling point” for the Court was viability, defined as “the capability of meaningful life outside the mother’s womb.”

Regardless of when life begins, when it is viable, the state has a compelling interest in protecting it. Thus, when Hillary Clinton said in 2016 that an unborn child had no rights under the Constitution even up to the point of natural birth, she was basically arguing against the Roe v. Wade framework.

Democratic political strategists have welcomed the Alabama law as a way to fire up their base and reset the abortion argument going into the 2020 election. But the simultaneous push for late-term abortion clearly works against them. In a February Marist poll, pro-life sentiment surged, erasing a 17 point gap and drawing even with the pro-abortion position. The poll showed 71% opposing abortion after 20 weeks, and even among Democrats opposition was 59%.

Perhaps more alarming for the Democrats is that younger people moved in greater proportion towards the pro-life position than older age cohorts. And a May 2019 Hill-HarrisXsurvey found that 55% of those polled found a Georgia-style six-week abortion ban either “just right” or “too lenient.” Again, broken down by age group, it was those aged 18-34 who “were most likely to say the abortion bans did not go far enough.”

So rather than benefiting Democrats, the new battle over abortion may be a replay of the 2003 debate over “partial birth abortion” which benefited George W. Bush in his reelection bid. Democrats have predictably denounced the new restrictive abortion laws while showing no signs of being willing to accept any particular time limits on terminating pregnancies. For his part, President Trump has criticized the Alabama abortion law for going too far while also strongly denouncing New York’s highly permissive approach. Advantage Trump.

Meanwhile the Supreme Court will be able to monitor a variety of lower-court challenges to these new laws which will in time give the justices an opportunity to select the specific case or cases they might use to rewrite Roe. At which point Democrats will have to be “kept comfortable” while the decision is reached whether or not to terminate it.

Not a "clump of cells"

Democrats want to stop white men from legislating women's bodies. So they have come out against Roe v. Wade, and have vowed to do everything to overturn it, after finding that the decision was made by a Supreme Court made up mostly of powerful, white men.

"It is time that we stop letting white men legislate on reproductive issues, and that's why we're declaring Roe v. Wade null and void," one activist said at a rally in Alabama. "If you don't have a uterus, you don't get a say, so the decision that effectively made abortion a constitutional right is invalid."

She then led the protestors gathered in a chant: "No vagina, no ability to declare abortion a human right!"

At publishing time, Democrat activists had redoubled their efforts after learning the decision was made by a Republican-appointed majority.

European countries try to pull a fast one.

Georgi Boorman writes in the Federalist,

...Abortion is a pregnant woman employing lethal means to terminate her responsibilities as a mother. It is not an effort to protect “women’s autonomy” or “women’s health.” This is the entitlement leftists are cowing the rest of their party into supporting unconditionally.

Again, if a mother is dangerously ill because of her pregnancy, the baby can be delivered. If a mother can’t bear the responsibility of parenting, she can carry her baby to term then allow her to be adopted. Gestating a baby is not a violation of autonomy, but a natural possible outcome of sex, an act between autonomous and consenting individuals.

The only time one can say pregnancy violates autonomy is if a woman becomes pregnant by rape––but even then, the child is innocent in the matter. As a human being, he is endowed by his Creator with a right to not be murdered, and that natural right supersedes the loss of autonomy for nine months. Moreover, abortions in cases of rape are estimated to constitute about 0.54 percent of all abortions and can’t be used to justify the other 99.46 percent of abortions that leftists staunchly support.

...In the womb or out, the far left believes it’s the mother’s decision whether to allow her own child, her helpless and dependent flesh-and-blood offspring, to live. Expect to see more obstruction of protections for live infants, because Democrats don’t believe in their own propaganda. They believe something far, far more terrible.

"His administration did everything it could to transform a procedure that ended a life into something to celebrate."

In the Federalist, David Harsanyi writes,

Last week, 44 Senate Democrats blocked a bill that would have saved babies who survived abortion attempts from negligent homicide. Presidential candidates Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders all voted against Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse’s Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

Moderates, progressives, or socialists, it didn’t matter. Although the bill did nothing to restrict abortion, a yes vote would have been tantamount to admitting that babies subjected to post-22 week abortions are viable, which is something the alleged party of science can’t do.

But while the vote was perhaps the clearest indication of how radicalized the Democratic Party has become on the issue, it’s worth remembering it was the previous administration that normalized this position. Barack Obama, after all, was the first major presidential candidate to argue that unrestricted abortion—or, rather, “reproductive justice”—was one of the “fundamental rights” Americans possess. His administration did everything it could to transform a procedure that ended a life into something to celebrate.

...Obama and the progressive Democrats used their slick and nimble marketing operation to make the Republicans look like radicals, but by the standards of American public opinion, it is the Democrats who are the extremists on abortion. Most Americans, if you believe polls, deem abortion morally wrong, even if it is legal. Most Americans believe late-term abortions should be restricted. Most Americans believe in parental consent in the case of a minor. Most believe that a married woman should notify her husband before procuring an abortion. Most claim to oppose the use of public funds to pay for anyone’s abortion. Obama opposed every single one of those regulations, yet he was never framed as the radical on the issue.

Americans aren’t one-issue voters, and Democrats rarely pay a price for their highly unpopular position on abortion. As we sit here, a man who described, in detail, how an infant would be murdered under a Virginia bill that protected doctors who participated in the post-birth termination of a once-viable, once-healthy infant for nearly any reason, is still the sitting governor of his state. Not a single national Democrat has demanded his resignation over those remarks. Why would they? This position is now the norm in the Democratic Party.

For many years, Democrats have been allowed to get away without any serious questions regarding their opposition to post-20-week abortion restrictions. Despite interference from fact checkers and other Democratic Party surrogates, for example, their 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton supported, from conception to crowning, not a single restriction on the procedure. This fact becomes obvious in the rare times they’re honest about what abortion means.

On Abortion, Killing, Murder, Tearing Limbs, Throwing Out Heads, and Personal Responsibility

There is a difference between “killing” and “murder.” A difference in law, a difference in language. The Ten Pronouncements (wrongly translated as the “Ten Commandments”), for example, bans murder, not killing (lo tirtzach — and not lo taharog). Thus, it is perfectly acceptable and sometimes even righteous pursuant to Biblical theology for soldiers at war to kill the enemy, for regular people to kill attackers. Indeed, that is why the same code of life permits and even commands capital punishment in certain discrete instances. On the other hand, murder always is forbidden.

...According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there have been 45 million abortions in America since 1970. That is quite a number to absorb. There were approximately 200,000 in 1970, and the number jumped to 763,000 in 1974. It kept rising to 1,429,000 in 1990, and it then started a downward spiral descending to “only” 638,000 in 2015. A simple graphic shows that abortions predominantly have impacted the population numbers of Black and Hispanic America. African-American women are three times as likely as Caucasians to undergo an abortion; Latinas twice as likely. Ironically, Republican conservatives who lead the fight against Roe v. Wade and abortion on demand, who march for life, by now would have been wiped out politically if they had won their battle. Given the propensity of Blacks and Hispanic Americans to vote Democrat Left, and the greater propensity of liberal Caucasian women than their married conservative counterparts to abort, the twenty million or so fetuses aborted between 1970 and 1990 would have become voters by now and very probably would have tilted elections Leftward in several states now and for decades to come. Ironically, it has been the pro-choice movement that has allowed Republican conservatives in America still to enjoy any choice at all come election time, saving the other 49 states from turning into California, which almost-literally has become a one-party state.

Apparently, these new Gosnell laws that New York, Virginia, and other such states are advancing often would entail injecting a potassium compound into a fetus’s heart to stop it from beating. A short time into the pregnancy the fetus head gets too big to extract out of the woman, so it first must be cleared of its “gray matter,” the brain contents. Then the head can be crushed to a more manageable size for extraction, perhaps pulled out by forceps, perhaps by vacuum suction. Suction likewise vacuums out the limbs, the different body parts, the crushed head. As with all suction devices, the vacuuming procedure obviously tears limbs from limbs.

...It well may be expected that the Left Mediacracy will ignore these statements, instead ferreting within their Left echo chamber to find the George Soros types in the Jewish community, including the ADL that has been taken over by former Obama White House personnel, to create the alternative reality that fosters and advances the Left narrative. But for Jews who actually practice Judaism, who abide by the kosher dietary rules and who observe the Jewish Sabbath as it is constituted, the approach is in sync with that of Christians and fundamentalist Protestants, devout Catholics, and even secular and atheist Americans who cannot countenance poisoning the heart of a fetus to stop its beating, sucking its brains out of its head, crushing its cranium, and vacuuming its arms, legs, and other body parts except in the most extreme of circumstances when the dilemma extends beyond inconvenience and goes to the heart of whether the baby’s exit will murder the mother in the process.

If a society is to be judged by how it protects its most vulnerable, the battlefront for morality and American values will be decided not by whether a wall to secure a porous border is moral but by how the revived abortion debate plays out.

Cuomo gets a reprieve but the fifteen-year-old wearing a MAGA hat is in deep dodo. Compare Iowa and New York!

Sasha Ingber reports in NPR,

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed one of the country's most restrictive abortion bills into law on Friday.


The so-called "heartbeat" legislation bans abortions once a fetal heartbeat has been detected, at about six weeks of pregnancy. Exceptions are made in cases of rape, incest or medical emergency.

Republican state lawmakers worked late into the night this week to push the measure forward. During Tuesday's debate in the Statehouse, Rep. Sandy Salmon said, "A baby has become something we can throw away. This bill says it's time to change the way we think about unborn life."

The bill passed the state House on Tuesday and the state Senate early Wednesday. Then it landed on Reynolds' desk.

Iowa Legislature Passes 'Fetal Heartbeat' Bill To Ban Abortions After 6 Weeks
"I understand that not everyone will agree with this decision," Reynolds said in a written statement. "But if death is determined when a heart stops beating, then doesn't a beating heart indicate life? For me, it is immoral to stop an innocent beating heart."

The legislation drew firm Republican support. Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst tweeted, "Glad to see Iowa leading the way and standing up for the most vulnerable in our society, the unborn. Thank you @IAGovernor for taking this important step forward in protecting life."

No Democrats voted for the bill.
