Who will stop the Iran deal?

The story I expect to be the really big one this week is the deal with Iran. Roger L. Simon writes at PJ Media,

While the Donald Trump sideshow has been sucking the oxygen from the news cycle over the last few days, the Obama administration has been off quietly doing what they do best — undermining America and the free world at every opportunity.

This time it’s the big one, finally bringing home the long-awaited Iran deal that promises peace in our time with the Islamic Republic much as Neville Chamberlain promised peace with Nazi Germany, although, unlike the Chamberlain agreement, made when Britain was militarily weak, we are the military powerhouse giving away the store to the vastly weaker side — and that store is reported to include a “signing bonus” of some fifty billion bucks, good news indeed for Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthi, the Revolutionary Guards and, among other mass murderers, Bashar al-Assad.

Of course, this “deal” was obtained via a virtual litany of rolled-back red lines on the American side that allow for no real way of ascertaining if Iran is cheating or doing much of anything if they do. And, as we all know, they already have cheated, multiple times and as recently as last month.

...Obama and Co. are betting the Islamic regime does not take its own ideology seriously. That’s a bet I wouldn’t want to make. The Republican base was angry that their representatives did not step forward to stop Obamacare. Well, Obamacare is obviously trivial compared to nuclear war. And now we have sixteen and growing candidates before the national media. Lady and gentlemen, the time is now. Do something.

Michael Kennedy wonders at Chicago Boyz if the corporate wing of the GOP is leading the party to disaster:

The Chamber of Commerce support of the Republican party is not on the side of the immigration skeptics but the voters are.

GOP candidates are actually running away from the issue.

...Trump is drawing huge crowds of Republican voters and the other candidates are drifting away from the base.

...I am not surprised that Democrats, who rule most large cities and who support the same Sanctuary City policy, would oppose Trump. A few Republicans, like Tom Cotton are doing something. Cotton has proposed ending federal funds for sanctuary cities.

Eradicating sanctuary cities pits two core Republican priorities against one another: enforcing immigration policies versus making sure that the federal government doesn’t get overly involved in local and state affairs.

That’s a fair question but why are federal funds going to cities now ?

But there’s one question that neither The Donald nor his fellow Republican candidates have been willing to answer: What should the U.S. do with the estimated 11 million people already in the country illegally?

I could answer that question, which is of the “Have you stopped beating your wife ?” variety. Once the border is closed, we can deal with the long term illegals who have clean records. The more serious question is why have Republicans, except Ted Cruz, left the field to Donald Trump who is a self promoter and very unreliable as a Republican loyalist.

Trump looks to me like Ross Perot in 1992. He has a history as a Democrat and a friend of Bill and Hillary. Perot had one issue in 1992.

Bombast

Michael Reagan confuses me. He is a talk radio host who boasts 5 million daily listeners. Yet, he admits that

talk radio is all about bombast and attracting callers, not about winning elections.

The Tea Party bosses have been listening to too much talk radio. They seem to think that what makes a good Republican candidate is someone who sounds like a talk radio host.

If Republicans are going to win general elections in 2014 and beyond, we've got to put up principled conservative candidates who sound like senators, congressmen and governors - not kooks.
