"...pandering to a charlatan with a history of inciting violence and racism"

David Harsanyi writes in The Federalist,

...apparently Obama’s resuscitation of Sharpton (who, since 2011, has been at MSNBC, a cable news network that interminably lectures uncouth Americans on proper tone) has worked. Many of the very same Democratic Party hopefuls who boycotted the tepid bipartisanship of an AIPAC conference last month could be found speaking at Sharpton’s National Action Network Convention in New York this past week, pandering to a charlatan with a history of inciting violence and racism.

Harsanyi goes on to list lowlights of Sharpton's career, then notes,

Never once, as far as I can tell, have any of his didactic colleagues on cable news asked him about these career highlights. Not once did a reporter ask any of the presidential candidates about Sharpton’s history.

As a native New Yorker, I hold a grudge. That doesn’t mean others can’t forgive Sharpton for the horrible things he’s done. It’s something else, however, when a remorseless man with a history of hucksterism and cruelty is not only being flattered as national moral leader by presidential candidates but that those same politicians are being given a free pass as they kowtow to a reprehensible character.

Writing about Kate Smith in the American Spectator, Dov Fischer asks,

...How can all her life’s work be obliterated so instantly by the kind of Truth Squad that tears down statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, while elevating the race-baiting Al Sharpton to democracy’s kingmaker?

It is the kind of bald-faced hypocrisy and double standard that sometimes makes me rue the day I took an interest in the public sphere. The race-baiting Al Sharpton signed the White House visitors’ book more than did any other visitor during the Wasted Obama Decade. He ended up with his own television show. He portrays himself as a civil rights leader, and others complicit with the fraud, even though they have to know better in their inner selves, pay dutiful obeisance. Obama turned to Sharpton as he began his second Presidential campaign. Yet Sharpton has blood on his hands. He has been convicted in court of defamation. This is the Mad Kingmaker, the wormy Littlefinger, to whom every single Democrat seeking the Presidency first must turn for approbation and blessing, beseech, beg, and bend the knee?

All while Kate Smith’s recorded voice now is banned from belting out “G-d Bless America” from public arenas and stadia that played her rendition every day until a month ago.

This is the Metaphor of Hypocrisy for the New Age. May we in this land that we love see this long night end with the light from Above.

Civil rights icon Roy Innis has died at 82 from complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Trey Sanchez writes at Truth Revolt,

The great conservative civil rights icon Roy Innis has died at 82 from complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Though not as known on the national scene as race-baiters Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, Innis was a powerhouse to the Right. He led the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) for forty years and was the bane of so many civil rights figures on the Left.

He was an NRA member, telling blacks gun control was “meant to deprive you of your freedom,” and vehemently condemned affirmative action. He created further tensions among civil rights activists when he blamed the deaths of his sons on inner city thugs and drug dealers:

“My sons were not killed by the KKK or David Duke. They were murdered by young, black thugs. I use the murder of my sons by black hoodlums to shift the problems from excuses like the KKK to the dope pushers on the streets.”

NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre paid tribute to his friend, saying, “Roy got up every day and followed his conscience on what he thought was right, and if that led him to collide with political correctness, he was willing to take the heat.”

Innis served for two years in the Army, studied chemistry in college, and campaigned to be New York City Mayor twice but lost both times. He is survived by nine children, two sisters, and “numerous grandchildren,” according to The NY Daily News.

As far as some of his most memorable moments, Innis can go down in history as the only man to put the Rev. Al Sharpton on his then-fat ass on television during an explosive debate on the old Morton Downey Jr. Show:

Let the pandering begin!

So what is the first thing Bernie Sanders does this morning after his New Hampshire victory? He meets with racist Al Sharpton in Harlem to try to figure out how to woo black voters in South Carolina! It is going to be comical to watch Sanders and Clinton pander to blacks in South Carolina. So do you think Hillary will revive her southern black accent?

The real powder keg

Daniel Henninger writes in Wall Street Journal,

‘No justice, no peace.”

In Baltimore now, they’ve got both.

When Al Sharpton popularized the chant, “No justice, no peace,” it was unmistakably clear that “no peace” was an implicit threat of civil unrest.

Not civil disobedience, as practiced by Martin Luther King Jr. Civil unrest.

Civil unrest can come in degrees. It might be a brief fight between protesters and the cops. It might be someone throwing rocks through store windows. Or it might be more than that.

...As to his contribution, Mr. Obama said, “We’re making investments so that they can get the training they need to find jobs.” But one has to ask: What jobs?

On Wednesday morning the year’s first-quarter GDP growth rate came in—0.2%. Next to nothing. For the length of the Obama presidency, with growth significantly below norm, unemployment for blacks aged 24 and younger has hovered between 30% and 50%. That’s the real powder keg, not the police.

As to Baltimore, familiar support will materialize from New York when the Sharpton retinue arrives in the burned out Baltimore neighborhoods on his way to a meeting in Washington with the new attorney general. What this means is that when Reverend Al walks out of the neighborhood, Baltimoreans will be in the same place they were this week before he showed up. No justice. Less peace.
