Changing the subject

The most commonly asked question I get from associates at work is, "What time are you off, Bob?" When I answer the question, the conversation quickly turns to a recital by the questioner of when he or she gets off, what time he or she came in, how many hours they are working this week, or whatever else is on their minds. They really didn't care what time I am getting off. It's just a way to tell me something about themselves, without having to come up to me and say, "I get off at five today, because I came in at 8." The etiquette is, first, ask the person what time they get off, then you are entitled to change the subject and make it all about you!  .
