Instapundit has been linking frequently to a writer named Sarah Hoyt. Here is some of what she had to say about the election: "Romney is a decent business manager. He’s a decent man. He likes
America. He wants America to like him. He’s not going to actively
dismantle our way of life, as will the one now in power. There will be
no attacks on freedom of religion, no wild power grabs for the Internet,
no executive orders that violate the laws of the land. He will not
hanker for more “flexibility” so he can give more to Putin. And — this
is petty but important for how the world sees us — he will neither
apologize nor bow to foreign leaders."
Mike at Cold Fury responds: "My main worry about Romney was never that he isn’t perfect. It’s that he’s a liberal pig in a faux-conservative
poke, and will therefore do plenty of damage in his own right. But
Sarah’s essential point still stands: we’re electing a President, not a
Messiah, and ought to leave the dreams of emperors and little tin gods
to weak-minded acolytes of the Progressivist cult. If the country is to
be saved, it’s up to us to do it, not any one guy we elect. Which might
just be the most worrisome truth of all."
