Condi Rice took time off from smacking drives down Augusta's fairways to speak to the crowd gathered in Tampa: "You can come from humble circumstances...It does not matter where you came from. It matters where you are going. We have never been envious of each other's successes. Ours has been a belief in opportunity. No country can do more harm to us than we can do to ourselves. Greatness is built on mobilizing opportunity. You can control your response to your circumstances. The crisis in K-12 education is a threat to the very fabric of who we are. We have to have high standards for our kids. Self esteem comes from achievement. This is the civil rights issue of our day. Entitlement and grievance? No! The parents of a little girl in Birmingham convinced her that she could be anything she wanted to be. It took leadership and courage. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan know who we are, and will provide that leadership. God bless this exceptional country, the United States of America!"

She is a treasure. Just finished reading her book, "No Higher Honor." Awesome woman, amazing perspective, proud she's an Alabamian.
