"Llama"

The Denver Post features a front page story on the Aurora killer, James Holmes. In his application to the graduate school of neuroscience at The University of Illinois, Holmes sent this photo of himself holding out one strand of hay, while standing next to a llama. The professors, in emails to one another, "winkingly" referred to Holmes as "Llama." Did any of them question him about this photo? The article doesn't say. the professors characterized him with adjectives we've all come to know about him: he was "driven, self-motivated, and intelligent."  How about "cowardly?" Holmes describes himself as having a "need to persist against the odds." Did any of these brilliant professors question him about that?

There are always obvious things we see clearly in hindsight that in foresight just seemed odd but not dangerous.
