This blog is looking for wisdom, to have and to share. It is also looking for other rare character traits like good humor, courage, and honor. It is not an easy road, because all of us fall short. But God is love, forgiveness and grace. Those who believe in Him and repent of their sins have the promise of His Holy Spirit to guide us and show us the Way.

The struggle to obtain basic civil rights
I am still reading Bruce Watson's epic book Freedom Summer, about the struggle for civil rights for blacks in Mississippi in 1963 and 1964. Terrorism is not something invented in 2001. It was alive and well in Mississippi well into the 1960s. My most consistent commenter on this blog, Terri Wagner, vows to enlighten me as to the merits of the other side of the story. So does a white Mississippian where I work. Until they do, I will assume Mr. Watson's account of the events there is valid. It is very well researched, and has been a riveting read. Yes, it is biased in favor of those who risked their lives to aid the cause of people seeking to obtain basic civil rights. What do you want him to do, tell the story from the point of view of the thugs who wore white sheets while beating and killing black Americans?

No just admit that things aren't that black and white, because they weren't. Two of us are telling you that.
