"I Came To America To Better Myself"

Here is a positive story about an immigrant. One of the waiters who served Colleen and children on their four day trip to the mountains was a young man from Canada. He told Colleen that he moved to America because he did not like the government in Canada. Colleen asked, "You don't like the socialist government? He replied, "There is no incentive to better yourself. I came to America to better myself!" He knows that it will not be easy, but he likes the American spirit. He sees people trying hard and succeeding. He finds that to be a more attractive and challenging life than having the government provide for all his needs in Canada.

Wow.

As a Canadian, that makes me sad to read.

Our government technically isn't socialist. It's not perfect and it has its own challenges, as other countries face challenges with their own governments (just in different ways). And there are always opportunities for people to better themselves up here. Not all our needs are met here, but the ones that are, I really am glad of it.

This really makes me sad to read... :(

dawna,
Thanks for coming by. You are right about no government being perfect. We certainly complain a lot about our government here in America.
Colleen was very inspired by the young man from Canada.

It's all about people being willing to work hard and sacrifice to have a better life. Who knows, maybe he'll return to Canada one day and help make changes.

Oh, and by the way, considered yourself tagged:

Canada (like America) could truly be a great country if they would only get rid of their activist ideas of Government. There is a lot of good people up there and they don't deserve to be oppressed by the socialism they are being led to.
