Today in the Denver Post there is an article about a remarkably bright and courageous man who works for the city of Denver. The man's name is Dennis Supple. He is a heating, ventilation and air conditioning mechanic. Mr. Supple is angry that the city is making all employees watch a "diversity video" in which a white employee is portrayed as a racist, sexist ignorant man.
Mr. Supple is considering taking the equity in his house to file a lawsuit to stop the city from showing the video. "Diversity, to me, doesn't mean hammer the white guy, Supple said. "Diversity means you have respect for everyone, regardless of their race, their gender, their religion, their sexual orientation." When Supple raised his concerns about the video during his diversity training class, he was brushed off by the city's diversity manager. He has written to her and Mayor John Hickenlooper to ask them to stop showing the video.
I have quoted quite a bit from the article, because it is not available online. The story was written by Daniel J. Chacon. It is rare for an article like this to appear in the Denver Post. Perhaps that is why it is not yet available online!
