The Age of Entitlement, culture wars, and META

We are seeing too much Karl Marx and too little Jesus of Nazareth!

META: question our assumptions. The screaming and yelling on both sides is absurd! It is the communication industry that makes us hate one another. Leftists in the media continue to reiterate lies about Donald Trump, hoping that some may stick (Charlottesville).

All of us have got to get a more rounded view, more META view of the complex free country that we are in!

Christopher Caldwell is Andrew's guest in the latter portion of the show. He has written a new book called the Age of Entitlement: America since the 60s.

The civil rights revolution of the 1960s brought forth new logistics of how civil rights were going to be enforced. It turned out to require a ton of government. In addition to the new crimes created in the civil rights law, you have new government authorities to police them. You have an expanded Civil Rights Commission, an EEOC, the Fair Housing Act, the Higher Education Act, and pretty soon you have a real governmental juggernaut that can get stuff done without ever involving the democracy. Bilingual education, gay rights, women's rights all came under the powerful governmental juggernaut. The old checks and balances on governmental power were not involved.
