What is our national interest in Afghanistan, Where are those who are seriously committed to our nation and its history, what would victory in Afghanistan look like, can we drive a stake through Islamist ideology?

Mark Steyn once again hosted the Rush Limbaugh Show today. I'll excerpt some of his thoughts here.

He wishes Trump would define what is the national interest of the United States to be in Afghanistan.

A 225-year-old statue of Christopher Columbus was destroyed over night in Baltimore. We are now seeing mobocracy; mobs erasing American history. Will we defend Washington and Jefferson? Where are those who are seriously committed to the nation and its history? Will the name of Washington DC be changed to New Sharpton? People destroy statues of the past so they can control the future.

Mark ponders, "What would victory in Afghanistan look like? Could women remove their veils and listen to bad American music? Have we accomplished anything in 16 years there? Have we been honest about who the enemy is, what the enemy is?"

Now we have Trump's tough talk, but how is it going to be different? It has been a long time since America unambiguously won a war. What is in our national interest? It looks like conventional war-making ala Bill Crystal, John McCain, and Lindsey Graham.

President Trump is in Phoenix tonight without the support of the Establishment. Arizona's two senators, Flake and McCain, will not join him. Steyn believes that is a big mistake. Republicans will rise or fall with Trump. We just had an election. There were no takers for a Jeb Bush style Republicanism, despite his 100 million dollar bankroll.

Democrats think it was either Putin or Robert E. Lee who put Trump in the White House...or a hybrid Robert E. Putin.

Mark thought the most important line in Trump's Afghanistan speech was when he said that he wanted to bring to bear all aspects of American policy, not just military. You have to drive a stake through the Islamist ideology, which intends to supplant all other ideologies. That is what we did with Nazism.

Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are leaders of the non-legislating legislature.

A man in Dubai divorced his wife because she kept walking in front of him despite his repeated warnings. The men there all wear cool white, while the women swelter in the desert sun wearing black. They are cultural partners with American feminists.

In the 1930s young Germans burned books while law enforcement authorities stood by. What is happening now in America is a more thorough torching of history - far more ambitious. The Left is telling us you cannot think these thoughts, you cannot discuss these ideas, you cannot even see these symbols. Significant parts of local and state governments are colluding with the Left in erasing America's past.
