It's true! It really happened to Colleen tonight as she left with a cart full of diapers, Pull Ups, Wipes, Juices, and a plastic table cloth made in China. Mau was tantruming (just came back from a visit with biological mother). "Let me see your sales receipt," demanded the rather large greeter. Colleen could not find it, could not find it, then finally found it. The woman slowly checked everything, but Colleen was beginning to doubt if the woman really knew how to read. Finally, Colleen snatched it back and demanded that the woman follow her to Customer Service. Colleen then demanded to see someone who could read. Someone came up and read all the items on the list and then profusely apologized to Colleen. As she drove away with Mau screaming, Colleen dialed the store and asked to speak to the manager. The manager explained that the greeter was trained only to ask to see a receipt if the door buzzer goes off, which did not happen in this instance.

I got checked once right at check out but it was my own stupidity. Before I went to Walmart I had purchased a Bic pen at another store believing I would need it right away. When I didn't I inserted into my coat pocket still in it's wrapper. I went to Walmart and they noticed the an unopened Bic wrapper sticking out of my coat pocket and checked me out. As soon as they saw the price sticker was from another story they apologized but I understood; I'd have probably done the same thing.
Stopping your wife according to instructions was one thing, but having someone who couldn't even read a receipt at that station is just plain inexcusable.
I was an Asst store manager for Walmart at sometime in my sorry past. I would HIGHLY recommend you call Walmart Corporate at 1800Walmart and file a complaint. The store number is always listed on the receipt.
It is inexcusable to be pulled aside when the buzzer didn't go off but to also embarrass a customer by hauling them to customer service because you cannot read?
Please do this because they need to know what kind of store the manager is running. It is important if they are going to be convinced that they need to change the way they are running the corporation. Sam Walton is rolling in his grave!!!

How embarrassing for them! I found your blog while searching for photos of gallardia for a friend, but stuck around to read. You write about some interesting things and I enjoy your photos.
By the way, not to be critical, but what does it matter that the greeter was large?

Only that because of her size, she was more intimidating than if she had been a foot shorter.
