Super Moon tonight

Tonight's super moon will be closer to Earth in its orbit when it nears peak fullness. A super moon is shown at left, and a micro moon -- a full moon at its farthest point from Earth -- is shown at right. (NASA)

Leigh Morgan reports at Al.com,
It's the last full moon of the year, and it will be a good one.

December's full moon, also called the Cold Moon, will also be a super moon, and the only super moon visible in 2017.

There have been three other super moons this year, but they were new moons.

December's moon will reach its fullest point near the time it makes its closest approach to Earth in its orbit, called perigee.

The moon will reach its peak fullness on Sunday at 9:46 a.m., but it will appear nearly full both tonight and Sunday night.
