"The North Korean regime is causing tremendous problems and is something that has to be dealt with, and probably dealt with rapidly."

So President Trump told reporters in the Rose Garden this week.

But how this is to be done "rapidly" is not so easy to see.

North Korea has just returned to us Otto Warmbier, a student sentenced to 15 years hard labor for stealing a propaganda poster. Otto came home comatose, and died within days.

Trump's conundrum: How to keep such a regime from acquiring an ICBM with a nuclear warhead, which Kim Jong Un is determined to do.

Having seen us attack Iraq and Libya, which had no nukes, Kim believes that only nuclear weapons that can hit America can deter America. He appears willing to risk war to achieve his goal.

...The only nation that could impose sufficient hardships on North Korea to imperil the regime is China. But China refuses to impose the Draconian sanctions that might destabilize the regime, and might bring Korean refugees flooding into China. And Beijing has no desire to see Kim fall and Korea united under a regime aligned with the United States.

...What would be an America First Korean policy?

The U.S. would give Seoul notice that we will, by a date certain, be dissolving our mutual security treaty and restoring our full freedom to decide whether or not to fight in a new Korean War. Given the present risk of war, possibly involving nuclear weapons, it is absurd that we should be obligated to fight what Mattis says would be a "catastrophic" war, because of a treaty negotiated six decades ago by Eisenhower and Dulles.

"The commonest error in politics," Lord Salisbury reminded us, "is sticking to the carcass of dead policies."

Sunday is the day of each week when Oregon Muse brings us book news at Ace of Spades. Today he writes about reclaiming history.

"Down with fascism!" screams the masked, black-clad Antifa goon squads as they riot, destroy property, assault peaceful protesters and innocent bystanders, and disrupt lectures and speaking events whenever they don't like what's being said.

Perhaps Jonah Goldberg covered most of this in his book Liberal Fascism, but it certainly bears repeating:

The Big Lie: Exposing the Nazi Roots of the American Left is the title of Dinesh D'Souza's new book which is available for pre-order on Amazon (scheduled release date: July 31st). I suppose it could be viewed as a continuation of his previous book, Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party wherein he argues that the Democratic Party is now, and always has been, the party of racism, Jim Crow, slavery, and misogyny. The record seriously needs to be corrected here. Also, the progressives' feeble response ("well, maybe this used to be true, but all the Democrat racists have now switched to the Republican party") is both factually inaccurate and lame.

So, too, does current progressive ideology and tactics mimic the Nazi brownshirts, however loudly they proclaim that Trump is Literally Hitler. It's a big, sticky hot mess of projection and denial, and D'Souza is forcing them to own it. And, to be honest, Republicans should've been howling about this every chance they could for the past three decades, and shame on them for not doing so. We roll our eyes at Trump's ridiculous tweets, but you know what, silence, silence in the face of continuous, unrelenting attack, is a whole lot worse.

I agree. George W. Bush took the silent approach. It gave us Obama.

You may have read that Susan Rice's unmasking records were sent to the "Obama Library" and cannot be made available for public inspection for five years. Judicial Watch says not necessarily so:

As noted, the records could be squirreled away from the public for at least five years, but there are ways they can be obtained almost immediately under law. The exceptions to Obama Library records restricted access are as follows:

“subject to any rights, defenses, or privileges which the United States or any agency or person may invoke, Presidential records shall be made available–

(A) pursuant to subpoena or other judicial process issued by a court of competent jurisdiction for the purposes of any civil or criminal investigation or proceeding;

(B) to an incumbent President if such records contain information that is needed for the conduct of current business of the incumbent President’s office and that is not otherwise available; and

(C) to either House of Congress, or, to the extent of matter within its jurisdiction, to any committee or subcommittee thereof if such records contain information that is needed for the conduct of its business and that is not otherwise available;

You can see that both President Trump and Congress can quickly get ahold of these records. As JW considers it legal options, they should both move quickly to preserve, protect, and disclose the Obama spying scandal documents to JW and the American people.

Hurting the people it was supposed to help!

Seattle's groundbreaking minimum wage hike hurt the low-income people that it was meant to help, according to a report prepared for the city council.

...Researchers from the University of Washington found that low-income workers saw their pay fall drastically when the city moved to the $13 mark in 2015. Companies reduced the number of hours that employees worked to cope with the increased labor costs.

"The lost income associated with the hours reductions exceeds the gain [in hourly rates]," the report says. "The average low-wage employee was paid $1,897 per month. The reduction in hours would cost the average employee $179 per month, while the wage increase would recoup only $54 of this loss, leaving a net loss of $125 per month (6.6%), which is sizable for a low-wage worker."

An illegal and unconstitutional mutiny

...The intelligence leaks involved in framing the story alone are probably sufficient grounds to put several dozen senior officials in federal prison for double-digit terms. That consideration gauges the scale of the problem: the mutineers have committed multiple felonies, and their downside should the mutiny go wrong is not ignominious retirement but hard time at Leavenworth.

For the moment, the mutineers have the momentum. The Trump administration continues to run on a skeleton staff, with the vast majority of key positions still unoccupied. If my surmise is correct, it was unable to persuade the director of the FBI, the nation’s chief watchdog, to undertake vigorous countermeasures against the mutiny, for example, a comprehensive screening of electronic communications by the reporters who received leaks of classified materials.

...The White House and in particular the National Security Council meanwhile remain riddled with Obama Administration holdovers, forcing Trump to rely on a close circle of trusted advisers. That limits the president’s ability to reach out for allies against the mutineers.

...The President’s free-wheeling style, more suited to the management of a family business than the Executive Branch, makes minor missteps more likely. Minor missteps are dangerous when a desperate and determined enemy is ready to exploit them.

Trump’s one great advantage in all of this is that he has done nothing wrong. He did not obstruct justice because there is no crime. The mutineers’ only hope is to provoke him to take actions which might be construed as obstruction of justice in an investigation with no crime and no victim. Still, it is a moment of great danger for the American Republic.

In Oregon and California assisted suicide is legal. Some insurance companies are encouraging patients to kill themselves! Dr. Brian Callister tried to transfer patients for a life sustaining curative procedure, but was turned down by two different insurance companies.

Remember Obamaphones? It has been discovered that the "Lifeline" program that gives out the phones is rife with fraud. As much as 30% pf the phones were obtained fraudulently. Now they are branching out to free internet.

For ten months, Charlie has been living in the intensive-care unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. In March, his doctors decided that there was nothing more they could do for him, and they recommended that his parents, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, withdraw his ventilator. They refused, on the grounds that an untried experimental treatment was available in the United States. The hospital, in accordance with British law, applied to the courts to forestall further treatment. In April, the High Court found for the doctors and against the parents. In May, the Court of Appeal upheld the initial decision. In early June, the Supreme Court agreed. And this week, the European Court of Human Rights — the last court of jurisdiction — refused to intervene. Charlie’s parents have raised enough money from private donations to fund the experimental treatment, but the court decision prohibits his removal to the U.S. Whenever they see fit to do so, the doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital can now remove Charlie’s life support.

...The question, then, is not what would Charlie Gard want — a question no one can answer. The question is what do we owe to people such as Charlie, who cannot speak for themselves? What duty of care do we owe them simply on account of their being human beings, who are by nature possessed of an inalienable dignity? What obligations do we have to those who suffer, and how should we understand their suffering? And, pertinent to this case, under what circumstances should the tightest bonds of affection — those between parent and child — be subordinated to the judgment of the state?

The precedent established by Charlie Gard’s case will metastasize, as similar decisions have. It will be made to apply to children with more-familiar illnesses and better prognoses; it will be used to dismiss the input of parents whose values and priorities when it comes to medical care and end-of-life issues do not align with those of the state; it may be used simply to clear beds for “worthier” patients in a health-care system with very limited resources. This, presumably, will be “compassionate,” too. Any day now, they’ll kill Charlie Gard. But it’s in his own best interest. Don’t you see?

Anyway, the media branding machine has been seeking to Get Trump since the day after he was elected. Trump's team should thwart their efforts by staying on message. Focus on what you are doing for the American people.

Laura notes that words matter, actions don't. By that she is referring to the behavior of the impeached Bill Clinton, who took action against many women. Trump uses words to tear down Mika, and the press goes berserk! What did the press and Democrats do with Bill Clinton's sexual escapades?

Trump has the South Korean president in DC today, and he is telling him that the trade imbalance has got to end.

Laura ends the program with interviews with a former special ops guy who is now a missionary to the people of Burma, Iraq, and Syria.

Her final guests are Christians working in Uganda, which has taken in hundreds of thousands of refugees. Uganda is 86% Christian.

Who will stand up to Pelosi?

She has raised more money for both parties than anyone else. Since 2006 Nancy has raised $568 million for Democrats. Since 2008 they have steadily lost all elections except city governments. Everybody in the Democrat caucus in the House owes her something.
