Silence Is Golden

Guest post by Suzann Darnall

Once again we are seeing just how far American society has fallen when it comes to good manners, common courtesy, a little tact, or simply being kind. Some of the comments following the death of Barbara Bush have been hateful beyond measure. I just kept thinking of that old line, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.” A little less vitriol, both said and written, recently would have been nice. I am ashamed to be of the same species as those who would strike out at a dead woman and her mourning family. It doesn’t come much more mean-spirited than attacking a lady who can no longer defend herself. That is all I have to say.
