The publisher of the Rocky Mountain News, John Temple, writes today that there is one big difference in the Jon Benet story today as compared to the original story ten years ago. It is now an internet story, and it moves much more quickly than 1996. He also notes that he now realizes that a local newspaper like the Rocky "can now speak to a global audience in real time, once the province only of major broadcasters." Furthermore, he notes that their reporters no longer write for the paper; they write for the web, where their stories can be noticed immediately by sites such as the one run by Matt Drudge.
