This blog is looking for wisdom, to have and to share. It is also looking for other rare character traits like good humor, courage, and honor. It is not an easy road, because all of us fall short. But God is love, forgiveness and grace. Those who believe in Him and repent of their sins have the promise of His Holy Spirit to guide us and show us the Way.

"Limited government is the best medicine"
At Town Hall, Michelle Malkin tells us about her decision to allow her chronically ill daughter be treated with medical marijuana.
"No more!"
Ace of Spades writes,
...In order to learn at all, it is required that someone first believe that he has anything to learn at all, and we know that progressives do not see conservatives as people from whom anything can be learned -- they see us as subhumans to be re-educated and reconstructed into civilized savages who at least won't embarrass them as we tend their gardens.Read more here.
Leftist students cannot be taught anything -- they now routinely scream at professors (you know, the people they're allegedly paying to learn from) that they must SHUT UP AND LISTEN. They come to the university already knowing all there is to know, and in fact are only present to teach their professors; one wonders, then, why it isn't the students being paid, and the professors paying tuition to learn their collective, shouty, expletive-filled wisdom.
(By the way, don't be fooled: None of these people will pay the massive debts they're acquiring while passing time at university; you will.)
...Do they ever actually suffer for their own choices? Do they ever experience a setback larger than just not getting their way, this week?
No.
And it's time for that to change.
...Another man can only tell you you belong to an inferior caste.
But when you begin acting like you're part of an inferior caste -- following his rules and his preferences, substituting them for your own -- then you actually are now part of that inferior caste.
...I didn't particularly want Kathy Griffin fired -- but it was necessary.
I actually envy her lack of inhibition and total feeling of freedom. She felt she could do whatever she wanted, so long as it broke no laws.
I'd like to feel that way. But I can't.
I can't feel that way, because I know the progressive mob is always scalp-hunting, and that I am not free to say or think as I might like.
They rule part of my brain -- my very fear of them limits my thoughts, creates inhibitions and limitations in me which I did not choose for myself, but were forced upon me from without.
I have become, partly, a recruit in the Social Justice Warrior army. Their dicta, their demands, their fury is always alive inside of me.
I know to fear them. And so I must self-censor.
...I don't want her to have less freedom -- but the only way to make sure I keep the limited, constantly-eroded freedom I currently have is to insist that I am not a serf, and I will not be held to different laws than the Lords.
As I cannot accept that -- and as I will not accept that -- I must insist she pay the same cost I would be expected to pay if I were to do what she did.
Otherwise, I'm saying Sir/Ma'am to the Ruling Caste, and confirming that I accept my lower position.
Hillary Clinton called half of the country "The Deplorables."
It's really not so different from the lowest caste in India -- the "Untouchables," is it?
They're not even attempting to turn us into serfs covertly any longer -- it's now just pretty much out in the open.
No more.
No more.
The Democratic Party - "a cultural movement fueled by coastal elites, academics, celebrities, and the media"
Victor Davis Hanson notes that the Democratic Party
is no longer a liberal (a word now replaced by progressive) political alternative to conservatism as much as a cultural movement fueled by coastal elites, academics, celebrities — and the media. Its interests are not so much political as cultural. True to its new media identity, the Democratic party is against anything Trump rather than being for something. It seeks to shock and entertain in the fashion of a red-carpet celebrity or MSNBC talking head rather than to legislate or formulate policy as a political party.Read more here.
...The Democratic party is now in the hands of Obama progressives, who in turn follow the lead of the hip, cool, and outraged media that have no responsibility other than to appear hip and cool and outraged. Trump apparently understands that and so focuses most of his invective not against a tired Nancy Pelosi or the shrill Chuck Schumer but at the major networks, mainstream newspapers, and Hollywood celebrities — the heart now of the progressive fusion party.
...Operationally, the celebrity world and the media have institutionalized political obscenity and street theater. On Inauguration Day, Madonna dreamed out loud of blowing up the White House; Ashley Judd went on a crude, incoherent rant about Trump. Since then, media fixtures such as Steven Colbert and Bill Maher have melted down, the one suggesting on the air that Trump had committed a sex act on Vladimir Putin, the other that he commits incest with his daughter. Yet both were simply amplifying the prior gross slur from Politico reporter Julia Joffe: “Either Trump is f***ing his daughter, or he’s shirking nepotism laws. Which is worse?”
Please report for duty!
While Dennis Prager did not support Donald Trump in the primaries, he does now. Why? He regards
the left-right battle as an existential battle for preserving our nation.Read more here.
I vigorously supported him once he won the nomination. I believed then, as I do now, that America was doomed if a Democrat had been elected president. With the Supreme Court and hundreds of additional federal judgeships in the balance; with the Democrats' relentless push toward European-style socialism — completely undoing the unique American value of limited government; the misuse of the government to suppress conservative speech; the continuing degradation of our universities and high schools; the weakening of the American military; and so much more, America, as envisioned by the Founders, would have been lost, perhaps irreversibly. The "fundamental transformation" that candidate Barack Obama promised in 2008 would have been completed by Hillary Clinton in 2016.
...Many conservatives, including me, believe that it would have been close to over for America as America if the Republican candidate, who happened to be a flawed man named Donald Trump, had not won. Moreover, I am certain that only Donald Trump would have defeated Hillary Clinton.
In other words, I believe that Donald Trump may have saved the country. And that, in my book, covers a lot of sins — foolish tweets, included.
The Never-Trump conservative argument that Trump is not a conservative - one that I, too, made repeatedly during the Republican primaries - is not only no longer relevant, it is no longer true.
Had any Never-Trump conservative been told, say in the summer of 2015, that a Republican would win the 2016 election and, within his first few months in office, appoint a conservative to the Supreme Court; begin the process of replacing Obamacare; bomb Russia's ally, Assad, after he again used chemical weapons; appoint the most conservative cabinet in modern American history; begin undoing hysteria-based, economy-choking EPA regulations; label the Iranian regime "evil" in front of 50 Muslim heads of state; wear a yarmulke at the Western Wall; appoint a U.N. ambassador who regularly condemns the U.N. for its moral hypocrisy; restore the military budget; and work on lowering corporate tax rates, among other conservative achievements — that Never-Trump conservative would have been jumping for joy.
So, why aren't anti-Trump conservatives jumping for joy?
I have come to believe that many conservatives possess what I once thought was a left-wing monopoly — a utopian streak. Trump is too far from their ideal leader to be able to support him.
There is also a cultural divide. Anti-Trump conservatives are a very refined group of people. Trump doesn't talk like them. Moreover, the cultural milieu in which the vast majority of anti-Trump conservatives live and/or work means that to support Trump is to render oneself contemptible at all elite dinner parties.
In addition, anti-Trump conservatives see themselves as highly moral people (which they often are) who are duty-bound not to compromise themselves by strongly supporting Trump, whom they largely view as morally defective.
Finally, these people are only human: After investing so much energy in opposing Trump's election, and after predicting his nomination would lead to electoral disaster, it's hard to for them to admit they were wrong. To see him fulfill many of his conservative election promises, again in defiance of predictions, is a bitter pill. But if they hang on to their Never-Trumpism and the president falls on his face, they can say they were right all along.
That means that only if he fails can their reputations be redeemed. And they, of course, know that.
But there is another way.
They can join the fight. They can accept an imperfect reality and acknowledge that we are in a civil war, and that Trump, with all his flaws, is our general. If this general is going to win, he needs the best fighters. But too many of them, some of the best minds of the conservative movement, are AWOL.
I beg them: Please report for duty.
Cultural appropriation, shooting down an ICBM, a marriage
Andrew gives his unique perspective on the subject of cultural appropriation.
In light of yesterday's successful shooting down of an ICBM, I am so glad Andrew reminds us of the withering hatred Ronald Reagan had to endure from the Left, when he stood by his belief in a Star Wars defense system.
Andrew concludes today's episode by reading something he wrote about his marriage, which is 37-years-old today.

“Climate” issues are the Trojan horse, the false ruse, the talking point, the scheme to get economic systems in place -yes, political systems- to control the distributive flow of larger economic wealth within all nations."
The Paris Climate Accord? No, the Paris Economic Accord. That is the view of Sundance at The Conservative Treehouse.
Every word we read, every corporate broadcast, every espoused punditry opinion, every angle that’s visible, everything surrounding the Paris Climate “Treaty”, All.Of.It., is driven by multinational banks and corporations who have a vested financial interest.Read more here.
The Paris Climate Treaty has nothing to do with “climate” and everything possible to do with economics, globalism and the controlled redistribution of economic wealth as constructed through decades of advanced policies of multinational financial interests.
There are factually TRILLIONS of dollars at stake.
When you consider the pontificating pearl-clutching from the financial and industrial elites, ask yourself this very basic question:
If Elon Musk (Tesla), Tim Cook (Apple), Larry Page (google), Mark Zuckerberg (facebook), or any of the myriad of multinational executives really cared about “climate change”, then why are they doing business in China?
The primary concern for every affiliated entity surrounds economics, not climate. “Climate” issues are the Trojan horse, the false ruse, the talking point, the scheme to get economic systems in place -yes, political systems- to control the distributive flow of larger economic wealth within all nations. Period.
What ObamaCare was to your loss of healthcare individualism, so too is the Paris Treaty a political tool to deconstruct national economic individualism. FULL-STOP.
...President Trump is very smart about the long-term ramifications to this ‘treaty’. If the heavily influenced industrialized nations commit themselves to this agreement they will be anchoring their economic manufacturing base within a tiered system of ridiculously burdensome regulations and agreements.
The strategic benefit to the United States will stem from not participating in the regulatory stranglehold that accompanies the agreement. Obviously all nations that compete with the U.S on international trade agreements would, for once, be at a disadvantage; and our American manufacturing and industrial base would be able to take strategic advantage.
In larger terms Trump’s refocused policy objectives remove the political benefit from Wall Street and places it back with Main Street, reversing a three decade long shift. This approach is adverse to the interests of the globalists.
President Trump’s economic team are well aware of the strategic advantage in walking away from the Paris Climate Treaty. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and their entire economic team know what is needed to reverse the decades long construct and defeat the interests of the global elites.
Some Gave All

Just what is Memorial Day? Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. It was originally known as Decoration Day and was designated as a day of remembrance when the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country were decorated with flowers, flags, or other decorations. Most do not realize it was born out of the Civil War and a desire to honor all our dead on both sides of that conflict which tore apart families and pitted brother against brother.
Some people get insulted if others use Memorial Day to thank a veteran for his service. Others are upset if someone uses the greeting, “Happy Memorial Day!” And, let’s face it, it is often confused with Veterans Day or Armed Forces Day. While I recognize the difference between these various holidays honoring our military and I realize the importance in honoring those for whom each holiday is specifically designed to honor, I truly do not feel it is an insult to any of the groups to honor others who have served or are serving. It is my absolute belief that it is better we give honor when and where we can, even if “inappropriate” to the actual holiday, rather than not honor those who defend and protect our liberty. ‘Cause when all is said and done, each and every soldier, sailor, airman, and marine counts!
But, I also feel it is important that we acknowledge the often horrible circumstances that lead to someone earning the right to be appropriately honored on Memorial Day. It means they died in military service to their country, often in time of war. Like it or not, war is a part of the remembering that takes place for far too many on this very special day of tribute. Even as we have military serving in danger zones about the world, I think too many forget this very un-party-like aspect of this holiday. It is about loss and sorrow, as well as families getting together to barbecue or picnic.
I remember going with my grandparents once to place flowers on a relative’s grave on Memorial Day. I was very young and do not remember the relative’s name. But, I remember my grandparents and my aunt crying as they stood around the headstone. Mostly I remember my older cousin and I getting all prettied up in church dresses, as well as dressing up our Barbie dolls all fancy, too. Then, if I remember correctly, we went to eat lunch in one of the very nice department store restaurants in downtown Charleston. At that point war and death really made no impact on me about the day.
Yesterday, to church, I wore blue and gray, with silver jewelry, to honor the colors of the United States Air Force. My father and my husband both were career officers in the Air Force. I also wore a WAR medallion given to me by my father when he returned from his third tour in Vietnam. I had a favorite uncle who served in Southeast Asia, too. I was blessed that my husband did not serve in a war zone during his career. So, for me, Vietnam is the war that hits closest to home. Although we did have many family members who served in World War II, it does not have a personal feel for me.
My father travelled all the time in the military, sometimes gone for long stretches, so him being sent to Vietnam for a year did not seem really unusual. Until one night when I had a complete meltdown while babysitting at a neighbor’s home. I was watching one of my favorite movies, John Wayne’s “Green Berets”, on TV and it suddenly occurred to me that people were actually shooting at my daddy and trying to kill him. I called my mother in tears and she was able to talk me back to calm and reassure me that daddy was fine.
It was for this reason that I wore my WAR medallion to church in honor of Memorial Day. ‘Cause I think we need to remember that Memorial Day is based predominantly on the loss and grief of war. It is mainly to honor those who have died in the service of their country and all too often in battle. There is pain, suffering, blood, and death that pays the price for our freedom and for their being honored on this darkest of the military holidays.
I also wore it ‘cause not all casualties of war die on the battlefield. Some are the walking wounded who carry internal, emotional, and/or psychological scars. Some are maimed beyond recognition. Others live, but no longer walk. And, many have died or will die years and even decades after war due to exposure to toxic chemicals, developing cancers, and suicide. They are still very much casualties of war, just not the way most people think about it.
So, while doing your yard projects or preparing that family feast, take time to remember those who have died in the service of our country. And, if you wanna thank a veteran for his service as you are out and about, go ahead and do it. None of the dead are gonna mind their brothers and sisters at arms being honored on their day. Lest we forget, all gave some and some gave all.

Germany and US: some common bonds, but also some major differences
David Goldman gives us his analysis of relations between Germany and the US here.
US successfully intercepts ICBM today
Sundance reports at The Conservative Treehouse,
I remember the fanatic opposition the Left mobilized in opposition to Reagan's "Star Wars."
One of the key elements to remember today -when reviewing articles and information about a successful ICBM intercept by a gound-based launch interceptor missile- is the actual interception happened in space (low earth orbit).
This shield program was the visionary “Star Wars” missile defense system originally proposed by President Ronald Reagan.
I remember the fanatic opposition the Left mobilized in opposition to Reagan's "Star Wars."
The development of Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) systems are in conjunction with an anticipated future ‘space-based’ orbiting intercept system – to create the ICBM defense shield. Today’s GMD interceptor test was successful. GMD monitors are on land, sea and in orbit. Congratulations USAFRead more here.
Around the clock, every day of the year, the GMD system acts as the nation’s shield and first line of defense to warn, alert and defend against the threat of ballistic missile attacks.
A nefarious Russian sleeper cell, Tiger Woods should have used a driver, who won the war of ideas?
In Andrew's opening monolog we learn about a nefarious Russian sleeper cell involving three characters. I won't ruin it for you, but one of the members of the cell was a guy named Obamski.
Tiger Woods should have used a driver.
Benjamin Weingarten believes the progressives have won the war of ideas. What are our ideas on the right? Freedom and liberty. He believes Turkey and Hong Kong will be the next two places to go the way of Venezuela.

The freedom gang
At PJ Media, Sarah Hoyt writes,
...Our elites yell and cry and wring their hands as much as Europeans do. More, maybe. Or at least they have more reach.Read more here.
But we’re the descendants of those who were exiled or self-exiled. We are or are descended from the hotheads, the troublemakers, the misfits, and the idealists.
We joined the freedom gang, of which our military is just the best trained and most militant branch. We don’t care what our self-entitled betters think is best for us. We understand that liberty is something worth fighting for. And we’ll continue to do so at all levels, with greater or lesser success as time goes on.
The important thing is not to give up.
We honor those of our military who fell in the fight; whose sacrifice is far too important to deserve mere thanks. Instead, we adopt them as our spiritual ancestors, even if we arrived here, relatively speaking, yesterday.
And we’ll fight to keep the legacy they defended alive.
It’s the least we can do.
Happy Days?

At least Trump is trying
At Truth Revolt, Carolyn Glick writes,
...On Thursday, less than 48 hours after US President Donald Trump completed his successful visit to Israel, his chief negotiator Jason Greenblatt was back in town.Read more here.
On Wednesday, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson set the tone for Greenblatt’s mission when he told reporters aboard Air Force One that during his visit, Trump “was putting a lot of pressure” on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas “to get back to the table” and negotiate a peace deal.
Tillerson went on to explain why Trump is so keen to make a deal.
“We solve the Israeli-Palestinian peace dilemma, we start solving a lot of the peace throughout the Middle East region,” he said.
Trump apparently agrees with his secretary of state.
At his joint appearance with Abbas in Bethlehem on Tuesday, Trump said, “I firmly believe that if Israel and the Palestinians can make peace, it will begin a process of peace all throughout the Middle East.”the people of Israel rationally fear the consequences of naturalizing 1.5 million to 2.5 million Palestinians who have been indoctrinated for more than 25 years to seek their annihilation.
...Trump said in Bethlehem that he is interested in spurring Palestinian economic growth. The fact is that the Palestinian economy grew the most when it was integrated in the Israeli economy. Integration with the Israeli economy, rather than handouts to PLO kleptocrats, is the key to Palestinian prosperity.
...In Riyadh, Trump said, “We will make decisions based on real-world outcomes – not inflexible ideology. We will be guided by the lessons of experience, not the confines of rigid thinking.”
It isn’t too late for Netanyahu to come forward. He can offer an alternative to the failed two-state fantasy. He can release himself, his country and Trump from the two-state/one-state cognitive straitjacket.
Trump doesn’t want to repeat the mistakes of his predecessors. But absent a clear strategic plan of action from Netanyahu, he will have no choice but to do so.

"Quite the Obama legacy."
At National Review, Andrew McCarthy reports,
The NSA intentionally and routinely intercepted communications of American citizens in violation of the Constitution.Read more here.
During the Obama years, the National Security Agency intentionally and routinely intercepted and reviewed communications of American citizens in violation of the Constitution and of court-ordered guidelines implemented pursuant to federal law.
The unlawful surveillance appears to have been a massive abuse of the government’s foreign-intelligence-collection authority, carried out for the purpose of monitoring the communications of Americans in the United States. While aware that it was going on for an extensive period of time, the administration failed to disclose its unlawful surveillance of Americans until late October 2016, when the administration was winding down and the NSA needed to meet a court deadline in order to renew various surveillance authorities under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
Even if the NSA does exactly what it is supposed to do (i.e., sift and discard), this means American communications are being seized and subjected to an inspection — however cursory — in the absence of any warrant, probable cause, or foreign-intelligence relevance.
...the NSA was not supposed to use an American’s phone number, e-mail address, or other “identifier” in running searches through its upstream database. It is this prohibition that the NSA routinely and extensively violated. Evidently, there was widespread use of American identifiers throughout the years after the 2011 revision of the minimization procedures. The violation was so broad that, at the time the Obama administration ended, its scope had still not been determined.
The rules from 2011 forward were simple: Do not use American identifiers. Yet NSA used them — not once or twice because some new technician didn’t know better. This violation of law was routine and extensive, known and concealed.
...Other reporting indicates that there was a significant uptick in unmasking incidents in the latter years of the Obama administration. More officials were given unmasking authority. At the same time, President Obama loosened restrictions to allow wider access to raw intelligence collection and wider dissemination of intelligence reports.
This geometrically increased the likelihood that classified information would be leaked — as did the Obama administration’s encouragement to Congress to demand disclosure of intelligence related to the Trump campaign (the purported Trump–Russia connection). And of course, there has been a stunning amount of leaking of classified information to the media.
Enabling of domestic spying, contemptuous disregard of court-ordered minimization procedures (procedures the Obama administration itself proposed, then violated), and unlawful disclosure of classified intelligence to feed a media campaign against political adversaries. Quite the Obama legacy.
"We are just the recipients of the leaks!"
Collusion? What about the collusion between Deep State intel officials and the media? I think it is a copout when Chris Wallace says it is the administration officials who take an oath and violate that oath by calling reporters at the Washington Post or New York Times. "We are just the recipients!" Recipients who hurry to put the story out without regard to security ramifications. It's all about clicks, isn't it Chris?

Carrying on
Mark Steyn writes,
...A few weeks ago the BBC reported that "approximately 850 people" from the United Kingdom have gone to Syria and Iraq to fight for Isis and the like. That's more volunteers than the IRA were able to recruit in thirty years of the "Troubles", when MI5 estimated that they never had more than a hundred active terrorists out in the field. This time maybe it's the exotic appeal of foreign travel, as opposed to a month holed up in a barn in Newry.Read more here.
Carrying on in Germany, Angela Merkel pronounced the attack "incomprehensible". But she can't be that uncomprehending, can she? Our declared enemies are perfectly straightforward in their stated goals, and their actions are consistent with their words. They select their targets with some care. For a while, it was Europe's Jews, at a Brussels museum and a Toulouse school and a Copenhagen synagogue and a Paris kosher supermarket. But Continentals are, except for political photo-ops on Holocaust Memorial Day, relatively heartless about dead Jews, and wrote off such incidents as something to do with "Israeli settlements" and "occupation" and of no broader significance.
So they moved on to slaughter 49 gays in a nightclub in Orlando - the biggest mound of gay corpses ever piled up in American history and the worst terror attack on American soil since 9/11. But all the usual noisy LGBTQWERTY activists fell suddenly silent as if they'd all gone back in the closet and curled up in the fetal position. And those Democrats who felt obliged to weigh in thought it was something to do with the need for gun control...
So they targeted provocative expressions of the infidel's abominable false religion, decapitating a French priest at Mass and mowing down pedestrians at a Berlin Christmas market. But post-Christian Europe takes Christianity less seriously than its enemies do, and so that too merited little more than a shrug and a pledge to carry on.
So they selected symbols of nationhood, like France's Bastille Day, Canada's Cenotaph, and the Mother of Parliaments in London. But taking seriously assaults on your own nation's symbols would require you to take your nation seriously, and most western citizens are disinclined to do so. As the great universal talismanic anthem of the age has it, "Imagine there's no countries/It's easy if you try..."
So the new Caliphate's believers figured out that what their enemy really likes is consumerism and pop music. Hence the attacks on the Champs-Élysées and the flagship Åhléns department store in Stockholm, and the bloodbath at the Eagles of Death Metal concert in Paris and now at Ariana Grande's "Dangerous Woman" tour.
In the decade since the Canadian Islamic Congress launched their "flagrant Islamophobia' lawsuits over my book, various comrades such as Ezra Levant and Douglas Murray have noted, correctly, that a principled commitment to free speech has always been a minority concern - and an even smaller minority with respect to free speech about Islam. As the most learned Imam John Kerry put it with respect to the Charlie Hebdo massacre, there was "a sort of particularized focus and perhaps even a legitimacy – not a legitimacy, but a rationale..." Those cartoonists, they were all wearing short skirts and asking for it.
Conversely, most other western citizens believe that to invert Trotsky, if you're not interested in Islam, Islam won't be interested in you. Ariana Grande was eight at the time of 9/11, and most of her fans even younger. They have passed their entire sentient lives in the age of Islamic terror, yet somehow assume it's something compartmentalized and sealed off from them. "Dangerous Woman" is meant to be an attitude, nothing more - an edgy pose in a pop culture that lost any edge long ago; a great T-shirt, like the ones last night scavenged from the merchandising stands and used to bandage the wounded. It must come as a shock to realize there are those who take your ersatz provocations as the real thing and are genuinely provoked by them.
"Carrying on exactly as before", as The Independent advises, will not be possible. A few months ago, I was in Toulouse, where Jewish life has vanished from public visibility and is conducted only behind the prison-like walls of a fortress schoolhouse and a centralized synagogue that requires 24/7 protection by French soldiers; I went to Amsterdam, which is markedly less gay than it used to be; I walked through Molenbeek after dark, where unaccompanied women dare not go. You can carry on, you can stagger on, but life is not exactly as it was before. Inch by inch, it's smaller and more constrained.
...All of us have gotten things wrong since 9/11. But few of us have gotten things as disastrously wrong as May and Merkel and Hollande and an entire generation of European political leaders who insist that remorseless incremental Islamization is both unstoppable and manageable. It is neither - and, for the sake of the dead of last night's carnage and for those of the next one, it is necessary to face that honestly. Theresa May's statement in Downing Street is said by my old friends at The Spectator to be "defiant", but what she is defying is not terrorism but reality. So too for all the exhausted accessories of defiance chic: candles, teddy bears, hashtags, the pitiful passive rote gestures that acknowledge atrocity without addressing it - like the Eloi in H G Wells' Time Machine, too evolved to resist the Morlocks.
As I asked around Europe all last year: What's the happy ending here? In a decade it will be worse, and in two decades worse still, and then in three decades people will barely recall how it used to be, when all that warmth and vibrancy of urban life that Owen Jones hymns in today's Guardian is but a memory, and the music has died away, and Manchester is as dull and listless as today's Alexandria. If Mrs. May or Frau Merkel has a happier ending, I'd be interested to hear it. If not, it is necessary not to carry on, but to change, and soon - before it's too late.

This Burns Me Up!
Guest post by Suzann Darnall
Not only does what I am about to write about make me mad, it literally could burn me up. Me, my family, my neighbors, our homes, our animals, our neighborhood, as well as much of the surrounding area! I know this for a fact ‘cause it happens in many areas across our nation pretty regularly! Not only do I know this from reading and watching news, but I have lived in various areas where it was a regular concern.
What am I talking about? People being careless with fire. From unattended burn piles to unauthorized campfires to throwing a cigarette butt out a car window. It is the last one that has got me riled up, again, this year!
I walked down to the front of my property to get my trash can and discovered, one more time, a cigarette butt laying in a pile of dry grass clippings on the edge of the road right up next to my (fortunately) green and growing grass. This happens on a pretty regular basis and it pert near gives me nightmares. Mainly ‘cause I know what happens when it gets dry and windy and some grass or brush catches on fire.
More than once I have actually sat in my open garage, in California, watching the San Bernardino hillside burn and waiting to see if it jumped one or two or three more arroyos making it mandatory for us to evacuate our home. I have also sat in my home at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, trying to figure out if we could move our horses from the saddle club into our back yard if the wind shifted and the saddle club had to be evacuated. I have also been at that same base, more than once, worried that we would have to evacuate our homes if the wind shifted OR if it did not shift.
My parents live in Parker, Colorado, a bit north of Black Forest. In 2013 there was the most devastating forest fire in the state’s history in the Black Forest area. It left horrid destruction. Some 15,000 acres were burned. Homes were lost. People died. Evidence can still be seen today, nearly 4 years later.
I have spent a good portion of my life living in arid climates. I know how quickly it can go from a spark to a raging fire. Many wildfires, brushfires, forest fires, and grass fires are started by accident. By carelessness. Often ‘cause someone is lazy or acts stupidly. Like throwing a cigarette butt out a car window, rather than putting it in an ashtray or trash receptacle, then throwing it away later.
You would think people living here in the Central Texas Hill Country would most certainly know better than to take the risk of mixing a spark with dry grass. After all, this is a usually drought-ridden, over-heated, arid, zone that can easily be dry as a bone through more than half the year. And, yet, my husband and I regularly find cigarette butts strewn along the road edge of our property. Even in the midst of July or August, when it is likely we have had NO rain for weeks, if not months.
Having watched the billowing smoke and seen the aftermath of the Bastrop County Fire in 2011, it astonishes me that anyone would still be cavalier about throwing a cigarette butt out a car window in Texas. Even if they were not living in this area in 2011, it was national news, and still gets talked about here in the area. Not to mention anyone can still see evidence of the massive destruction when driving through the Bastrop surrounding environs. This was the most destructive wildfire in Texas history.
Now, I am not saying all of these fires or even any of these fires were caused by cigarettes thrown from a car window. But, I am saying it does not take much of a spark in a hot, dry climate to set off a firestorm of epic proportions, particularly on a windy day. A cigarette butt in a pile of dead grass can start a flame in the time it takes a car to pass by as the driver tosses his potentially deadly litter out the window!
One would think common sense and common courtesy would stop people from doing things that might burn down a neighborhood, a forest, or both. But, sense and courtesy do not seem to be all that common anymore. As evidenced by every cigarette butt I’ve seen down by the road in the dry grass each summer and fall I have lived here in Texas!

Egyptian jets attack Islamist positions in eastern Libya
At The Conservative Treehouse Sundance reports,
He also quotes President Trump:
Following the terrorist attack against Coptic Christians in Egypt, Egyptian military jets attacked Islamic extremist positions in eastern Libya. The officials said the warplanes on Friday targeted the headquarters of the Shura Council in the city of Darna, where local militias are known to be linked to al-Qaida, not the Islamic State group.
He also quotes President Trump:
“America stands with President al-Sisi and all the Egyptian people today, and always, as we fight to defeat this common enemy. America also makes clear to its friends, allies, and partners that the treasured and historic Christian Communities of the Middle East must be defended and protected.”
~ U.S. President Donald J Trump
The retaliatory bombings were aimed at terrorist outposts, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated: “any form of state-sponsored terrorism should be punished. Anyone who attacks Egypt, whether they’re from inside or outside Egypt’s borders, will be punished.” According to Egyptian TV six “terrorist” camps were struck by the sortie.Read more here.
Honor killings, Female Genital Mutilation, ideas, freedom of speech
Mark Steyn agrees with Muslim reformer Raheel Raza that we are in a war of ideas! As she says, "Ideas can be critiqued, and should be!" She is fighting against Female Genital Mutilation and honor killings. In Pakistan, there are three honor killings a day!
Mark says, "When a tolerant society tolerates the boundlessly intolerant, it risks destroying itself!" He also says, "We are sacrificing the core values of freedom of speech to accommodate sensitivities we can never accommodate!

A crisis of the rule of law!
Is there a better organization than Judicial Watch? Tom Fitton gives us an overview of what Judical Watch is focusing on this week: the Obama spying scandal, the Seth Rich controversy, and the ethics scandal on Capitol Hill.
Rosenstein brings in Mueller not to investigate leaks or Hillary Clinton's cash connections with the Russians, or the illegal unmasking of Americans, but to see if there is any collusion between the Russians and the Trump team.
Fitton points out that Mueller and Comey are friends. Mueller's FBI collaborated with Lois Lerner to investigate the very groups Lerner was suppressing! Mueller's FBI targeted James Rosen of Fox News.
The deep state is leaking to the Washington Post or the New York Times almost every day! Holdover Obama administration loyalists are breaking the law to try to remove Trump from office.
Judicial Watch is filing lawsuits and FOIA requests on these issues and also have filed an ethics complaint against Adam Schiff.

"Stronger and stronger!" "Better believe it!" "We will win!"
President Trump concluded his trip with a speech to the US military at a Navy base in Sigonella, Italy. Melania spoke first. Something about her brings an emotional response in me.
Trump seems fired up, and more determined than ever to "do a lot of winning."

Is poverty also a state of mind? "rich guilt," Hillary addresses tomorrow's socialists and communists, journalism no more - now it's click bait, followed by zero evidence or facts
While Sean Hannity is off until Tuesday, Kimberley Guilfoyle sits in for him.
HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson believes that poverty is also a state of mind. Herman Cain agrees with Dr. Carson. He got out of poverty because he didn't have the liberal media and Democrats telling him he was poor, and he was blessed with parents and other people around him who gave him "a winning state of mind."
Mark Zuckerberg wants all Americans to have a guaranteed income to provide a cushion. Herman Cain says, "Go ahead, Mark, give them your money and let me keep mine!" He refers to "rich guilt" to describe Zuckerberg's proposal.
Was Hillary Clinton talking to "leaders of tomorrow" in her commencement address? No, Herman Cain says she was talking to tomorrow's socialists and communists.
Joe Concha makes the important point that we no longer have much journalism. We have click bait. The headline draws you in. Then you read the story and find zero evidence to back up the claim in the headline! No facts, just clicks and retweets! What are the motives of the unnamed sources? Anonymity is now the first resort, not the last resort, of publications like the New York Times and Washington Post.

Why not call it a terror ban?
As usual, Greg Gutfeld has a good idea: Why not have a terror ban? When someone goes off to Syria or Iraq to train with ISIS, ban them from returning home! I agree with Greg that we have Islamophobia-phobia! Rather than diversity training, we need to train people to see and report evil!
The UK is expecting at least one more bomb, after searching and finding evidence at the Manchester terrorist's home.
At Evergreen State College in Washington fascist robots have a double major, racism, and fascism! Greg implores the audience not to hire these liberal students. Make them stay in college for their whole working career!
Trump's travel ban cases are now going to the Supreme Court.

We are no longer on the side of Iran, Russia, and Syria's Asaad, Hillary is still trying to blame everyone but herself for the election, Evergreen College in Washington state is the new hotbed of campus craziness, Mike Rowe is advocating that young people learn a skill that is actually in demand, and a woman in California wants to marry a train station!
Charles Krauthammer celebrates the fact that because of Donald Trump, eight years of appeasement of Iran has ended! Trump spoke to 50 Sunni nations in Saudi Arabia. We are no longer on the side of Iran, Russia, and Syria's Asaad. Commerce is opening up between the US, Israel, other Sunnis nations, and maybe even the Palestinians!
Hillary is still trying to blame everyone but herself for the election.
Evergreen College in Washington state is the new hotbed of campus craziness. 50 students decided to disrupt professor Weinstein's class and imagine that he is a racist. Campus police showed up but were blocked by protesters. Police found another entrance, and the protesters disbursed to the office of the college president, Dr. Bridges. He is allowing the mob to control the campus since Tuesday morning. He told the police to stand down, and they are barricaded in the campus police station.
Congressman Dana Rohrabacher is the Chairman of a committee in the House of Representatives that oversees our relations with Russia and Europe. He is being accused of having sinister relations with Russia. He has never taken a penny of donations from any Russian, unlike Hillary and Bill Clinton, who have taken millions, and given away 20% of US uranium to a Russian.
Mike Rowe is advocating that young people learn a skill that is actually in demand! We need to change the way "alternate" education like tech school is viewed so that it is not viewed as "subordinate." There are 5.6 million available jobs going unfilled!
Lastly, there is a woman in the San Diego area who is in love with the Santa Fe train station there. She travels 45 minutes every day to be with her lover, and plans to marry the train station.

Learning about the Manchester terrorist
Four reporters for the Guardian write about the Manchester terrorist, Salman Abedi.
...Abedi was not very bright, according to former schoolmates and teachers, and was a victim of bullying who struggled to control his aggression and frequently got into fights, sometimes because he objected to the morals of others, sometimes for no discernible reason at all.Read more here.
He hung out with a criminal gang in his neighbourhood in south Manchester, a tiny geographical area where there was recruitment to Islamic terrorist groups. His family, active in the local mosque and community, had concerning connections to a militia in his parents’ home country of Libya that has been linked to al-Qaida and is banned in the UK. His father left Abedi in Manchester on his own when he was 17, an age at which he was vulnerable, perhaps, to falling under other influences.
Most troubling of all is the fact that Abedi’s extremism was not a secret. He was still a teenager when friends rang a police counter-terrorism hotline five years ago to express concerns about his behaviour. On at least four other occasions, community leaders and members of his family were reported to have warned of his dangerous tendencies.
...Friends recalled that he was not very devout as a younger teenager, and was teased about his prominent ears and given the nickname Dumbo. “He would drink, it was mainly vodka, and smoke weed,” said one school friend who knew him for seven years. “He was always clubbing or at house parties. He was always popular with women at the parties.”
...One friend said Abedi started fights in the street for no reason, while another told of an incident in which he punched a female classmate in the head, saying “he could have killed her”, because he didn’t approve of what she was wearing.
...according to a neighbour, the departure of Ramadan Abedi to Libya was the trigger for his second son to go “off the rails ... He suddenly had all this freedom and started partying loads”. But after one trip to see his parents, which some said occurred 18 months ago, Abedi became increasingly devout and judgmental.
He fell in with a new crowd of “Libyan and Arab guys”, according to a friend, who said: “He started university, but started shutting himself off and no longer hung around big rowdy groups, he was always by himself.
“He started ignoring old friends and wouldn’t look them in the eye. He lowered his gaze and looked at the ground when he walked past people. He became more studious, more religious.”
On a watch list flying back and forth to Libya and Syria, the beginning of Ramadan, Rove destroys the Dems' latest meme, time for street fighters
At The Story, Martha MacCallum informs us that the Manchester terrorist was on a watch list, but was still allowed to fly back and forth to Syria and Libya and the UK! There have been 500 terror attacks by radical Islamists so far this year! Averaging 28000 fatalities per year! This is the beginning of Ramadan. General Keane points out that there is always an increase of terror during Ramadan.
Karl Rove destroyed the latest desperate meme of the Democrats, who say that under the Republican health care plan 23 million will lose benefits. There are only 11 million receiving those benefits today! The CBO overestimated by over 200% in 2014 and 2015, and again by 150% in 2016.
Governor Huckabee is a great fan of Steve Bannon, the Navy vet whom Huckabee called a "wartime consigliere." Bannon invested in Seinfeld! Huckabee says it is time the Trump administration play both ends of the court: offense and defense! Huckabee ridiculed the constant attacks on Trump by the media and Democrats (but I repeat myself). The anonymous allegations are all coming from Casper the Unfriendly Ghost!

Jesus forgave, "principled realism," we have a 64 billion dollar trade deficit with Germany, Germany has not paid its NATO obligations, murderous attack on Christian children and their mothers in Egypt
A pregnant girl who is a straight A student at the Heritage Academy in Maryland is not being allowed to graduate. She is choosing life for her baby. Jesus forgave. Heritage Academy: not so much!
For 70 years American taxpayers have been footing the bill for the defense of 23 out of the 28 NATO countries. Trump's foreign policy of "principled realism" is saying this injustice must end! He also told the 54 Sunni nations gathered in Saudi Arabia that they need to save their own countries from the radical Islam being taught in their madrassas.
Laura is excited about what Trump has done on this trip.
We have a 64 billion dollar trade deficit with Germany!
Today there was a murderous attack on a busload of Christian children and their mothers in Egypt. The jihadists forced everyone out of the bus, then shot them dead.
Before Rex Tillerson was confirmed as Secretary of State, Trump utilized Jared Kushner to deal with foreign countries. So now he is being called "a person of interest" by the investigators. He has said he will gladly cooperate with any investigation.
Jeff Sessions has vowed to prosecute leakers.
Former CIA chief Jim Woolsey believes holdover Obama political appointees in intel agencies are the ones leaking.

The Left has gone insane, Chelsea Clinton is interconnected, atheists are proud to save 1st and 2nd-graders from Bible studies, 65% of drug dealers in Boston are foreign-born, and ESPN losing viewers because they are injecting progressive victimology into sports
Tucker made the case that the Left has gone insane. Dana Loesch agrees. Many examples were given.
Then there is Chelsea Clinton, who states that climate change and child marriages are interconnected. Luckily, she'll have time to hone her message between now and 2020.
An atheist group is proud that it saved (bullied) 1st and 2nd graders from being taught the Bible by school teachers before the beginning of regular school day classes.
The Boston Police Department released a report that shows that 65% of drug dealers there are foreign born.
ESPN is losing millions of viewers. Jason Whitlock says the sports media people there are injecting progressive victimology into sports. Jason attributes this to the power of Silicon Valley. Google, Facebook, and Instagram, who are attempting to define political correct points of view on the whole country.

Montana votes, Richard Fowler does his best Juan Williams imitation, leaked intel irks Brits
Montana Congressional candidate Greg Gianforte was one of the subjects of the discussion last night on The Five. After he body-slammed a reporter from the Guardian named Ben Jacobs, Montana voters went to the polls and elected him. Does that give you an idea of how weak the Democrat candidate was?
Juan Williams, who just won an award from the Multicultural Media Correspondents Dinner as Broadcast Journalist of the Year, was not present during tonight's The Five Show. However, Richard Fowler did his best imitation of whiny Juan, interrupting other speakers with his superior opinions.
Britain law enforcement (you know, the guys who don't wear guns) is angry that some of the information they shared with American intel officials about the Manchester terrorist attack got leaked! Our leaks may have thwarted their investigation and enabled accomplices to cover their tracks. Maybe the UK investigators should also be concerned about what they missed before the attack.

Melania speaks Italian in hospital visit in Italy
The Truth Division reports on Melania Trup's visit to an Italian hospital.
On Wednesday, First Lady Melania Trump surprised several kids at Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome with the “gift of tongue.”
According to Trump’s spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham, the First Lady spoke to these children directly in their native language — Italian.
“She went in the children’s [intensive care unit], which was very emotional,” Grisham said.
No other First Lady in American history has travelled abroad and used a secondary language to speak to locals — this is a first.
The Washington Examiner reports:
Melania Trump “personally” wrote a letter to Pope Francis asking if she could make a visit to the hospital.
“She spoke to them in Italian, she signed bandages and she took lots of selfies,” Grisham added.
Trump speaks several other languages besides English and her native Slovenian. It’s been reported that she also speaks German, French, Italian and Serbo-Croatian.
Venezuelans burn Hugo Chavez's house to the ground
The Chicago Tribune reports that in Venezuela
Fausta's Blog has this photo of the burning buildings.
While demonstrators are decrying current President Nicolas Maduro for the country’s triple-digit inflation, rising crime and shortages of food and medicine, they have also destroyed at least five statues commemorating Chavez, Maduro’s mentor and the founder of Venezuela’s “Bolivarian revolution.”
Demonstrators lit the house in the city of Barinas where Chavez spent his early years aflame Monday afternoon along with several government buildings, including the regional office of the National Electoral Council, said Pedro Luis Castillo, a legislator who represents the area.

"To err is human, but these people are idiots!"
Andrew Klavan notices that the people who are supposedly smart are dumb, and the people who are supposedly dumb (Trump team) are actually doing quite well! Trump goes over to Saudia Arabia and tells the leaders of 54 Sunni Muslim nations to stop radicalizing young people in their madrasas. He tells them that weeding out the evil loser terrorists is their responsibility, and we will help by selling them weapons and sharing intel.
Andrew cites the website Circa, which he says has a bombshell story about the FICA Court being critical of the NSA for leaking information on American citizens to the press, which is a felony.
Rod Dreher was a guest. He believes we are near the end of America. He notes that Millennials worship the autonomous self. They believe they are owed. They believe they have "rights," not duties. Because of their parents' uncritical acceptance of technology, Millennials are viewing pornography to the point where many are addicted.

"Putinheads," Utopia University, a leader who has moral courage, and several leaders who don't
Nigel Farage and Mark Steyn lead off the program with a discussion of terrorism. It has been announced that there are 3500 people in Britain being watched as potential terrorists. Belgium is even worse: 12,000 suspected terrorists! Over 400 have returned to Britain after being trained by ISIS in Syria! Britain has only taken action on 40! 850 have gone off to Iraq or Syria to fight for ISIS! Angela Merkel claims that it takes 60 people to monitor each terrorist suspect in Germany. This has been allowed to happen because of fear of being called Islamophobic,
Nigel Farage praised President Trump as a leader who has the moral courage to deal with terrorism, but the same cannot be said about Theresa May in the UK. Trump said in his Saudi Arabia speech, "drive them out from your places of worship!"

What good is a Constitution when it is being ignored? We must stop social engineering in our schools...Trump has to fight both political parties
Mark Steyn points out that we have the absurdity of District Court judges legislating immigration policy. At the same time, we have the legislative body explaining why it can't actually do any legislating, but it has a lot of time for pseudo-judicial courtroom hearings.
Trump faces the weird circumstance of having to fight against both political parties. The process is the punishment, as Mark well knows, having to endure endless court battles with Michael Mann, the hockey stick man. Republicans are in office, but not in power. Republicans should be there to assist Trump in governing, not tepidly allowing Democrats to destroy him.
Most countries have both a private and public health care system. At the moment we have neither. We have all the worst aspects of both.
Mark urges us, parents, to push back against the social engineering in our kids' schools. The right was stupid to abandon this field! This is the biggest structural deformity in the American life right now. It has taught two generations to have complete contempt for the most glorious inheritance in the history of the planet."

Critical thinking, terrorists may be misogynists, Obama's CIA Director voted for the Communist Party candidate, Trump and the Saudis
Rush opened the show with a discussion of critical thinking. Rather than teach our students critical thinking, Rush believes our educational institutions are mainly indoctrination centers. The more you know, the more you want to know. If you are thinking critically, you want to see the evidence before you accept what someone is trying to tell you to believe. If not, the critical thinker will be able to refute the argument based on what the thinker already knows to be true. Critical thinkers are curious. They do not blindly accept something they see written down.
Rush brings our attention to the Washington Post, which, because the terrorist in Manchester targeted women and girls, the WaPo believes there might be some misogyny going on with some of these terrorists. No, really!
Did you know that Obama's CIA Director voted for a Communist Party candidate for US President? Check it out!+
Remember when Trump joked, "I hope Russia has those emails Hillary deleted, so we can find out what's in them!" The Left took him seriously. That's how this whole collusion investigation may have begun!
Rush admits that he spends most of his time attacking Leftists, but he also has reservations about some of the things Trump has been doing that are different from his stance during the campaign, especially his close working relationship with the Saudis.

End madrasas, stop Iran, will Fox continue the conservative fight? Truth is worth fighting for, some recommendations for Memorial Day movie-watching
Andrew Klavan opens with a monolog mocking CNN and Andrew Cuomo in particular. Andrew likes what Trump has been saying abroad. End the madrasas, stop Iran.
Andrew makes a controversial assertion: "Fox News is dead!" He is referring to the fact that the Murdoch sons are now running Fox, and they do not seem to want to continue the conservative fight. I hope he is wrong. I think Fox has some real conservative fighters, and I excerpt their shows regularly here.
Andrew does a great job answering listeners emails. He frequently says we are created to be joyful, creative, and courageous. The truth does not die. Freedom and liberty are absolute goods. We were "endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights." That is true. Andrew says "the things I am fighting for never die. They kill them, they bury them, they roll the stone over it. You come back in the morning, and the tomb is empty. The stone has been rolled back. The truth of what is good does not die. It is worth fighting for and standing for. When we do, we are connecting to the eternal!
Andrew ends with a couple of movie recommendations for Memorial Day. Both give different views of PTSD. One is a 1946 movie entitled The Best Years of our Lives. The other is American Sniper. Andrew makes the point that PTSD can also occur when vets return to live "normal lives." When they were fighting, there was camaraderie, intensity, deep meaning. They come back and live "ordinary" lives missing in that intense meaning.

ISIS picking the low-hanging fruit, Obama administration spread MS-13 gang members across the US, media malfeasance
Tucker once again last night devoted most of his show to the terror attack in Manchester. One of his guests was "former Islamist extremist" Maajid Nawaz, who asked, "What kind of world is it in which I have to accept the slaughter of my children at a concert? It is a world of apathy and appeasement." Nawaz also pointed out that there are very few lone wolf terrorists. Up to 80% of terrorists are connected to someone who knew of their radicalization. They have been radicalized for decades because of a spread of an ideology. ISIS just plucked the low-hanging fruit. Nawaz calls it Islamist theocratic extremism.
So should we just carry on as normal? I don't think so!
A new segment of the Tucker Carlson Show is an investigation into how the Obama administration purposely spread MS-13 gang members across the United States.
Joe Concha from The Hill reports on the media. He said last night's reporting was atrocious. Still stuck on trying to find an example of collusion with Russia, outlets like CNN and MSNBC were very late reporting on the terrorism in Manchester. Concha calls it media malfeasance.

Europe's mistake, the FBI's failure
Fox News has a new show called The Fox News Specialists, who take a look at the items capturing the attention of the news media. Eric Bolling, Katherine Timpf and Eboni K. Williams are the show's mainstays, and two special guests come on each night. Tonight's special guests were Herman Cain (remember him?) and Elvira Salazar.
Herman made the important point that Europe has allowed migrants to avoid assimilation, saying "We don't want the cops in our neighborhoods!" Big, big mistake, Europe. Some communities in America have made the same mistake (Chicago and Baltimore come to mind).
Elvira reports in Florida for Telemundo, I believe. Did you know that the Orlando terrorist went to a gun shop to buy his weapons, but that same shop refused to sell him the body armor he wanted? The shop owner called the FBI to report the incident, but the FBI did not do anything. That would be Jim Comey's FBI?

Who are we? What do we stand for?
Okay, now I am caught up-to-date with Andrew Klavan episodes. He starts out by talking about a group of Islamist men who "can't even look at a woman without becoming disgusted with themselves and their own natural yearnings." Andrew suggests that they should just decree that they themselves are not allowed to go outside without wearing a blindfold, instead of forcing women to hide their beauty under black sacks.
Who are we? What do we stand for? What is it you are trying to express? Why are thrillers almost always about bad guys? Can't good guys be portrayed as flawed, but good, because of what they stand for?
Andrew thinks Trump's response to last night's Manchester terror was right on the money. Trump described terrorist killers as "evil losers!"
Islamists and Leftists have something in common. They have the same enemy. Freedom! Only in freedom can we have a conversation and argue about what we believe. Love is not love unless you choose it. Faith is not faith unless you choose it. Both the Islamists and the Leftists are trying to do the same thing - destroy our freedom to find our way and work our will.

Trump's trip, college commencements and some war movies
Klavan has a lot to say about Trump's trip. He compares it with Obama's 2009 trip to Egypt. Obama's fawning servility: "I'm so, so sorry we built our World Trade Center in the exact spot where devout Muslims were trying to fly their hijacked jets!" The media congratulated Obama for extending the open hand of friendship by saying the Muslims were only trying to live in peace with all mankind, after first slaughtering the parts of mankind they can't live in peace with.
Oh, and one more Klavan observation: we elected the wrong Trump!

Manchester bomber named Salman Abedi. ISIS takes "credit"
Sundance reports at The Conservative Treehouse,
The suicide bomber who detonated a bomb at a Manchester pop concert killing 22 people including young children has been named as 22-year-old Salman Abedi.Read more here.
According to the UK Daily Mail the bomber was previously known to authorities. He died at the scene and police carried out a controlled explosion at what is believed to be his home during raids around the city today.
(UK Daily Mail) […] Abedi is understood to have been born in Britain but is from a Libyan family. A school friend told MailOnline had grown a beard when he last saw him and neighbours claimed he had been ‘acting strangely’ recently.
A 23-year-old man, believed to be Abedi’s brother, was also arrested by anti-terror officers as police and security services attempt to work out if the suicide bomber was part of a cell.
Security sources have told MailOnline that initial analysis of the ‘sophisticated’ device suggests it was made by an expert.
ISIS have claimed responsibility after the terrorist set off a ball bearing bomb at an Ariana Grande concert, killing 22 and injuring 119 in the worst terror attack Britain has seen since the 7/7 London bombings.

Kindness
Joel Pollak reports for Breitbart,
First Lady Melania Trump has won rave reviews from the foreign press — and even the American press — as she accompanies President Donald Trump on his first foreign trip.Read more here.
More than her sartorial savvy, however, what was most impressive was the First Lady’s gesture of holding the hand of Israel’s First Lady, Nechama Rivlin, who carries an oxygen tank due to a respiratory illness. The image of the tall Mrs. Trump guiding the congenial but frail Mrs. Rivlin (above) went beyond normal diplomatic protocol and presented an image of kindness.
She also visited the Hadassah Medical Center Ein Kerem later in the day with Sara Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister’s wife. The hospital treats both Jews and Arabs, and features both Jewish and Arab staff.
The First Lady will be moving from New York to Washington, D.C. shortly, after the president’s youngest son, Barron Trump, completes his school year.
Terrorist attack aimed at teenage girls in UK
Sundance reports at The Conservative Treehouse,
♦ Massive explosion at the conclusion of singer Ariana Grade concert in Manchester England. ♦ At least two ‘explosions’. ♦ US officials briefed on the incident say UK officials suspect it was caused by a suicide bomber, NBC News reported. ♦ Police confirm 19 people were killed and at least 50 more were wounded. ♦ Mostly teen girls. ♦Read more here.
"America is back!"
That was the announcement of the president of Israel.
Nevertheless, we still have people like John McCain, Ben Sasse, Jeff Flake, Democrats, and members of the media rooting for failure on this historic trip by our president.
Trump also reminded the leaders of 54 nations in Riyadh, "We'll be back!"
Eli Lake pointed out to Laura that we now have a leader who does not suffer from Obama's delusions about Iran.
Yes, the Saudis got a lot of military equipment, but Americans got a lot of jobs!
Let us not forget the mass exodus from the Middle East of Christians during the Obama/Kerry years of fecklessness.
Laura paid tribute to Melania Trump, who Laura believes has been a "shining example of grace and graciousness and poise." She has paid a visit to a hospital, a women's forum, and something to do with children, that I have not seen in our media. Where are feminists?

New facts uncovered in Weiner sexting case
At the WhoWhatWhy website today, Matthew Harvey, Michael Dwyer, Jonathan Z. Larsen, and Russ Baker report,
On Friday, former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) accepted a plea deal in a Manhattan courtroom to a charge of “transfer of obscene material to a minor.” WhoWhatWhy has learned that much of what we know about this crime — which played a major role in the outcome of the election — is a lie.Read more here.
...A WhoWhatWhy investigation has uncovered numerous substantive falsehoods and mischaracterizations — raising doubts about a case that changed the 2016 election and American history:
• The girl was presented in news accounts — and Weiner’s plea deal — as being 15 at the time, that is, under the age of consent in her state. She was not.
• Weiner’s victim and her family were not, as represented, Clinton fans — they actually were strong Trump enthusiasts. Her story was trusted in part because she was characterized as having no axe to grind with Clinton or the Democrats.
• Weiner’s “sexting” partner was not simply a victim. Contrary to tabloid accounts, she initiated the contact with Weiner. And she went out of her way to seek advice from a GOP-associated figure behind prior efforts to harm Weiner and other Democrats.
...Since then, WhoWhatWhy has uncovered new information that shatters the commonly accepted narrative, which was first laid out by the pro-Trump, widely read British tabloid Daily Mail on September 21.
A key break came when, utilizing an array of sophisticated forensic techniques, we uncovered the girl’s true identity. We verified that we had the right person with four individuals close to or connected to her — including her former teacher and her own mother. By identifying the girl, we were then able to learn a great deal about her and her family. And that in turn led to the discovery of the lies.
The young woman has since turned 18, but because she was a minor at the time, we have decided not to publicly identify her.
According to the media accounts of this story and Weiner’s plea deal, the girl “had not attained the age of 16 years.”
However, our research shows that the girl was in fact not “15 and a sophomore” as the Daily Mail reported, when she initiated contact with Weiner. A court record shows that she was just shy of her 17th birthday at the time she approached him.
In addition, her extensive social media footprint provides further evidence. For example, she posted a picture in 2014 on her 15th birthday after having been given a North Carolina learner’s permit.
The lie that she was 15 years old when Weiner sent her obscene material seems clearly designed to produce the maximum public outrage and put Weiner in greater legal jeopardy — and the media-generated uproar may well have compelled the authorities to become involved and seize the computer with Clinton’s emails.
It should be noted that prosecutors, judges and juries view interactions with minors differently, based on the precise age of the minor: 15 is worse than 16, which is worse than 17, the real age of the girl for much of the period during which she interacted with Weiner, and her age when she approached the media.
Under North Carolina law, at 16, she was in fact above the age of consent. Ultimately, this would not matter because Weiner pled guilty to being under the impression that she was only 15, and she was still below the federal age of consent — the standard applicable in the case. Regardless of what he stipulated as part of his plea agreement, among the trove of incriminating messages it published, the Daily Mail provided no evidence that the girl actually told Weiner she was 15, only that she was in high school.
To those primarily focused on Weiner’s illicit behavior with a teenager, these legal definitions may be beside the point. But any lies at all in a matter so crucial — especially ones that have gone unchecked for so long — must be treated as indicative of a larger, politically motivated deception.
Plus, if this “lie,” misrepresentation of fact, or material inaccuracy found its way into a government pleading in what became the United States v. Weiner case, it would have legal consequences. But we may never know, because the way Anthony Weiner’s plea deal is structured inhibits further inquiry by dispensing with the matter while revealing no details about the underlying history.
Issue #2: The victim lied about political loyalties
.
She described herself as a “big fan” of the Clintons. She further stated that she so disliked Trump that if he were elected, she would move to Germany. Thus, she seemed to have no political agenda at all in “outing” Weiner.
However, the girl actually celebrated Trump’s victory on social media. (It should be noted that her various accounts, such as Twitter and Instagram, were set to private after news of Weiner’s plea deal broke. WhoWhatWhy has preserved screenshots of the tweets and Instagram posts in question.)
Her father is a registered Republican. She and her mother tweeted derisively about the Black Lives Matter movement. Her late grandmother was a Tea Party activist. These are not Hillary Clinton fans.
...Incidentally, another falsehood that emanated directly from the original Daily Mail article — that her father is an attorney — found its way into a May 9, 2017, New Yorker piece.
...Beyond the fact that the father is not a lawyer, it may be relevant that he has been arrested numerous times for crimes, including assault by strangulation — according to court records.
