Alienated Americans

Too many rural white voters are dropping out of America's elections. Democrats can no longer count on rust belt coalitions that supported Clinton and Carter, and Republicans can no longer count on farmers. Many stayed home on November 6. What will energize these voters? Why do they no longer feel they have a responsibility to take part? Is it just that they did not like the candidates? Still, by staying home on election day, they assured the defeat of the candidate who most closely represented their values.
