Scorned

Why is this Chinese woman being arrested? Tracy You reports for Mailonline,
The suspect, known only by her surname of Feng, was captured by a SWAT team after a 90-minute stand-off in the city of Zhenzhou, central China, reported Huanqiu.com, an affiliation of People's Daily.

...Ms Feng, 22, booked a room on the seventh-floor of Shanshui Hotel to wait for her boyfriend, who had agreed to meet her.

After waiting for a long time, she realised her boyfriend, reportedly more than 10 years her senior, was a no-show.

The angered woman called room service and asked staff to send toiletries.

When a hotel maid, only known by her surname of Xue, came to deliver her order, scorned Ms Feng suddenly took the fruit knife and pointed it to her throat.

She then held the maid hostage inside her room.

The Zhengzhou SWAT team was alerted at around 11am and immediately arrived at the scene.

SWAT officers stormed the hotel to catch the suspect and rescue the hostage, who suffered no injuries

Police kill pothead parole-absconding hostage-taker

Sadie Gurman of the Denver Post tells us about how dozens of SWAT officers rescued a 13-year-old boy and killed his kidnapper yesterday in Arvada, Colorado which is a suburb west of Denver.

The hostage-taker got hungry and asked the police to bring him some breakfast. Sure, we'll bring you breakfast; what would you like, steak and eggs? How about some bacon on the side?

Police detonated an explosion which blew off the front door, then charged in and rescued the boy pictured above, then shot the hostage-taker dead, ending an eighteen hour standoff. He had been on the run from parole.

Gurman writes,
Arvada police said the suspect and the hostage did not know one another. Police initially were summoned on a domestic violence call after an argument between the hostage taker and his girlfriend, Chief Wick said. As police approached, the man fled into a nearby house, where he took the 13-year-old hostage.

The hostage-taker was identified by his sister as Don Pooley, 34. He had convictions dating back to 1997 for aggravated vehicular theft, possession of marijuana, escape, possession of drug paraphernalia, forgery, vehicular eluding, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and smuggling contraband in prison, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.

Pooley was one of 722 parole absconders currently on the loose.

Swat team in Denver takes down hostage-taker at convenience store

Can you imagine how traumatic this was for this woman? She seems very solid, though.

Update: The woman is refusing to give her last name. Her first name is Betty. The hostage taker is a criminal named Raus Leroux. Channel 7 looked at his court records, and
A search of court records found Leroux has an extensive criminal history that dates back to 1996 and includes convictions for robbery and vehicle theft.
He was shot in the shoulder, and is in critical condition at a hospital. Nice of him to turn sideways, so the SWAT team could get a clear shot!
