"Pretty good stuff … for the Trump defense team."

John Soloman writes in The Hill,
...I cannot recall in my lifetime a Congress re-summoning a witness who admitted lying to lawmakers for a hearing that afforded the fanfare provided to Cohen on Wednesday.

...Okay, so no Russian collusion. No trip to Prague. No direct instruction to lie. And no secret effort asking WikiLeaks to hack the Democratic National Committee.

Pretty good stuff … for the Trump defense team.

How to get Kim to give up his only ace in the hole

Bookworm's take on the Kim-Trump summit:
Kim tried to offer Trump this deal: North Korea promises to de-nuclearize in return for the U.S. actually getting money into the broken North Korean economy. This is, of course, the same deal every past president has made with North Korea, and the outcome has always been the same: North Korea broke its promises even as the Americans fulfilled theirs to enrich North Korea’s coffers. Incidentally, it is also the same deal that Obama made with Iran, with exactly the same result. It’s a fool’s deal, intended to keep the media happy. It’s also the classic definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over, but expecting different results.

...Having laid the groundwork, Trump, the most experienced practical negotiator ever to sit in the Oval Office, is going to be patient and do it right: Kind words for his negotiating partner, strong positions on core issues with flexibility on ancillary issues and, always, the manifest willingness to walk away from a bad deal.

...I would not be at all surprised to learn that, just as Norman Vincent Peale’s The Power of Positive Thinking (the substance of which Trump heard every Sunday while sitting in the pews at Peale’s church) strongly influenced Trump’s thinking, so too did Dale Carnegie’s seminal book. You can use verbal abuse to try to force people to bend to your will but, if you want people voluntarily to give you something, you have to be nice. And that’s what Trump is doing with Kim — he’s being nice, not just to pander to Kim’s tyrannical ego, but to allow Kim to save face, and be the big man, even as he gives up his only ace in the hole.

His brain remade itself!

Andrew Zaleski reports in One Zero about "The Brain that Remade Itself."
Doctors removed one-sixth of this child’s brain — and what was left did something incredible.

...Today, Collins is a critical puzzle piece in an ongoing study of how the human brain can change. That’s because his brain has done something remarkable: The left side has assumed all the responsibilities and tasks of his now largely missing right side.

“We’re looking at the entire remapping of the function of one hemisphere onto the other,” says Marlene Behrmann, a cognitive neuroscientist at Carnegie Mellon University who has been examining Collins’ brain for more than five years.

...The fact that the brain has a malleable capacity to change itself isn’t new. What’s less understood is how exactly the brain does it. That’s where Behrmann’s study of Collins comes in. Her research question is twofold: To what extent can the remaining structures of Collins’ brain take over the functions of the part of his brain that was removed? And can science describe how the brain carries out these changes, all the way down to the cellular level?

...Before Collins’ surgery to remove the tumor, doctors opened up his head and placed electrodes on the surface of his brain and inside his visual cortex. For seven days, Collins lay in a hospital bed as the electrodes mapped his brain’s electrical activity, creating what was essentially a schematic diagram showing doctors where the seizures were originating and which brain areas needed to be cut out.

'Sometimes you have to walk away,'

Geoffe Earle and Chris Pleasance report in Daily Mail,
Donald Trump's talks with Kim Jong-un ended abruptly on Thursday as the president said he was forced to walk away after the North Korean dictator demanded that all sanctions be lifted in return for giving up only some of his nukes.

Trump said the final snag that caused the sudden breakdown was over sanctions – and Kim's push to have all of them lifted in exchange for a concession Trump and his secretary of state could not live with.

'Sometimes you have to walk away,' Trump told reporters at a press conference in Hanoi that was abruptly moved up after a breakdown in talks.

...A planned lunch meeting never happened, although a table was set with a floral centerpiece and menus folded inside napkins.

Reporters on hand to cover it were told to move to another location.

...There are sites that people don’t know about that we know about. We would be able to do inspections we think very, very successfully,' Trump said.

What will Pelosi do?

Writing in The Hill, Bob Cusack and Ian Swanson believe Nancy Pelosi is unlikely to try to impeach President Trump, barring something explosive coming from the Mueller report.
...Starting impeachment proceedings seems unlikely to end in a Senate conviction given the two-thirds majority needed in a body Republicans control with a 53-47 majority.

That makes it a tricky political proposition, especially as Democrats eye a 2020 election they think could end the Trump era and leave Democrats in control of Congress and the White House. That scenario would leave Pelosi with the chance at scoring some sweeping policy achievements on health care and climate change in her last years in Washington.

"A political stunt written by Clinton hacks"

I started listening at about the 8-minute mark. Greg Gutfeld stands up to Juan Williams, after Williams charges Greg and Jesse with being "so far into the bunker (as Trump supporters)." Greg objects to the bunker analogy, saying he believes it was a reference to Hitler.

Does Fox News not know its audience? I quit watching The Five because I cannot stand Juan Williams' rude interruptions and allegations. I do watch clips like this one when it is obviously making news (Drudge linked to it). Greg responds immediately to Juan's bunker charge, saying, "If you say that again, I'm gonna throw you off the set." Juan then held his heart, mocking Greg as though he was terrified Greg would actually get physical. Fox News should fire Juan. Enough!

Then I went back to the beginning of the show and realized that Juan had used the bunker analogy right at the beginning. Greg loudly told him to shut up! Greg's analogy for Creepy Cohen's testimony was to say that Cohen realizes he has been a dirtbag and that the way to get himself out of the dirtbag is to turn himself into a gratification machine for the media. His "rehab" is to match the media's assumptions.

A panelist named Morgan (I do not know her last name) compared Cohen unfavorably to both John Dean and Chuck Colson. No personal remorse, just feeding into the media's assumptions. She thought today's hearing was "a political stunt written by Clinton hacks."

More from the brilliant Greg Gutfeld. "The hearings were scheduled for today to undermine the summit in Vietnam. The media is rooting for Trump to fail. It might backfire by placing these two stories side by side (split screen). What is meant to undermine "that damn Trump" actually undermines them. The media is comparing a dramatic diplomatic effort that might end a 70-year war with a partisan tantrum. Slimeball theater, which is protein powder for the consensus media. It's like comparing a cure for a disease with an old Jackass re-run. Something historical with something hysterical. Never has something so big been compared with something so small."

When Cohen told the truth about President Trump

So, let me get this straight. A guy who will soon begin a three-year prison term for lying to Congress and committing eight other federal crimes is being brought back to Congress to testify against his former client, President Trump. Hasn't he already established his lack of credibility?

Trump, North Korea, and China

Do you know where President Trump will be tomorrow? Hanoi, Vietnam! Sundance reports in the Conservative Treehouse,
The majority of the political engagements between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un will take place in the overnight hours. Vietnam is 12 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time.

President Trump is in Vietnam for his second summit with Chairman Kim. The two men first met last June in Singapore, a summit that was the first person-to-person contact between leaders of the U.S. and North Korea. The structure of the visible public engagement is to reach an agreement where North Korea will give up its nuclear arsenal and enter the economic world of peaceful nations.

Those who follow China and North Korea closely see a much bigger, non-discussed geopolitical effort and engagement. Within this dynamic a more complex objective is to rescue Chairman Kim from the clutches of oppressive generational control by Beijing, China.

Chairman Xi does not want to give up control and President Trump is leveraging full U.S. economic pressure upon China to break the grip. Technically, President Trump is on the most complex, challenging and historic hostage rescue mission; and the entirety of world’s media cannot see it.

The four-day working week

In the Guardian, Robert Booth reports,
The founder of one of the first big companies to switch to a four-day working week has called on others to follow, claiming it has resulted in a 20% rise in productivity, appeared to have helped increase profits and improved staff wellbeing.

Analysis of one of the biggest trials yet of the four-day working week has revealed no fall in output, reduced stress and increased staff engagement, fuelling hopes that a better work-life balance for millions could be in sight.

Perpetual Guardian, a New Zealand financial services company, switched its 240 staff from a five-day to a four-day week last November and maintained their pay. Productivity increased in the four days they worked so there was no drop in the total amount of work done, a study of the trial released on Tuesday has revealed.

Democrats increasingly support state-driven coercive solutions

In the Federalist, David Harsanyi writes,
...You might also be a socialist if you propose a government takeover of the energy sector, which is what every politician who supports the Green New Deal is doing. Even if we stretch the imagination and concede, for the sake of argument, that these Democrats didn’t endorse the car-banning, cow fart-eliminating proposal offered by socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, ridding America of 90 percent of its most affordable, most efficient, and predominant energy sources in 10— or 20, or 40—years would necessitate a giant, coercive government project that would bring unprecedented intrusions into American life.

Nearly every Democratic Party presidential hopeful supports the aims of this plan. Nearly every Democratic politician wants the state to lord over the entire education sector. You’d be hard-pressed to find a single problem in American life, in fact, for which Democrats don’t have a gigantic, state-driven coercive solution.

...Isn’t it odd that not a single Democratic Party leader has been critical of Sanders’ collectivist ideology? This is a politician who went to the Soviet Union as a 47-year-old man, not as a radicalized 20-something, and praised one of the worst tyrannies in history. Will any 2020 Democrat presidential candidate condemn him for his adulation of Cuban, Venezuelan, and Nicaraguan socialism? Will anyone condemn him for having nicer things to say about nations with gulags, political executions, and mass starvation than he does for the United States?

...“America was founded on liberty and independence–not government coercion, domination, and control,” Trump said during the State of the Union. “We are born free, and we will stay free.” He’s inarguably correct about the first. The second is yet to be determined.

Is it a robot conspiracy?

J.D. Tuccille writes in Reason,
In recent weeks, Illinois mandated a huge increase in the state minimum wage, Pennsylvania's governor proposed to double his state's minimum wage, and New Mexico lawmakers moved forward with a plan to raise the minimum wage there, too. Hiking the cost of labor is a popular cause once again—even among people who've demonstrated in the past that they know perfectly well this is a recipe for limiting opportunity and trapping people in poverty.

It's tempting to say that people are actually getting stupider about economics. But maybe, instead, it's all part of a conspiracy by robots who are poised to be the big beneficiaries of an artificially crippled job market.

Mass grave containing 3,500 victims found in Raqqa

Charlie Bayliss reports in Mailonline,
A mass grave filled with the bodies of 3,500 people has been found in the former ISIS stronghold of Raqqa.

First responders found two foot deep graves just outside the Syrian city in the al-Fukheikha agricultural suburb last month, more than a year after US-backed forces captured the city from ISIS.

Experts believe the site, the largest mass grave found in the region, could help identify several thousand people who are believed to have been murdered by ISIS, but whose fate remains unknown.

Shallow graves measuring just two foot were used to dump the bodies in, as a dispatch team now work to identify the victims

"Are these questions designed to help men in therapy, or to present men as oppressors?"

Terry Brennan writes in PJ Media,
While there is gender parity among psychologists 55 and older, practitioners 35 and younger are 84% female.

...In addition to the significant gender gap, since the early ‘90s psychology has become further skewed to the Left. Dr. Haidt studied this phenomenon, finding the zeitgeist of the ‘60s and ‘70s generated an influx of individuals who came to pursue social justice. This created a climate which was both hostile to conservatives and allowed selection bias. Indeed, a 2012 study found only 6% of social psychologists identified as conservatives -- and 37.5% of respondents declared their willingness to discriminate against hiring conservatives.

Dr. Ryon McDermott, who helped draft the guidelines, explained their motivation by stating: “If we can change men, we can change the world.” Why should the APA be allowed to pursue Male Conversion Therapy? Indeed, Dr. Leonard Sax stated:

Stetson University psychologist Chris Ferguson notes that the guidelines’ emphasis on trying to get traditionally masculine men to become something other than what they are is reminiscent of the "conversion" therapies of decades past, which sought to convert homosexual men into heterosexual men.
For psychologists to use their position of power to pursue a progressive agenda with their patients is ethically repugnant. Therapists doing so should face a complaint against their license.

FBI: Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity?

Mark Levin interviewed Independent Counsel Ken Starr last night. Starr led the investigation of Bill Clinton. Starr believes Donald Trump has been unwise in not using surrogates to attack the press like Bill Clinton did. Instead, Trump takes the press on all by himself!

The law requires that Mueller's report goes to Attorney General Bob Barr, who then will decide what to report to Congress.

Did you know that FBI stands for Fidelity, Bravery and Integrity?

Mark Levin is much more effective in this setting where he is calm, unlike his screaming anger on his radio show. He believes the DOJ and FBI have acted as a cabal. Starr agrees and asks who do they think they are? He calls them "runaway cops" who have an abysmal understanding of our Constitution! These rogue characters in the FBI and DOJ took unprecedented, very strange steps toward a coup de'etat.

Starr believes FBI Director Comey usurped the authority of the Attorney General when he decided not to investigate Hillary Clinton. Levin says that under Comey and McCabe we had a "rogue FBI!"

Congressional oversight. Starr believes we should continually be asking whether any of the three branches of government are exceeding their powers under the Constitution.

Starr wishes Christopher Wray would be more clear in showing that it's a new day at the FBI.

As ISIS fled, they beheaded their sex slaves

The Clarion Project reports today,
In a final act of depravity, fleeing ISIS beheaded 50 Yazidi sex slaves, dumping their heads into trash bins for coalition soldiers to find.

ISIS fighters were besieged in their last stronghold – a small area in Baghuz located in eastern Syria. One hundred ISIS jihadis were killed in the final battle in which British Special Forces (SAS) fired 600 mortar bombs and tens of thousands of machine-gun rounds against the terror group.

Speaking to The Mail on Sunday, a source said:

“In their hour of defeat, the jihadis’ cruelty knew no bounds. They conducted a cowardly slaughter of these desperately unfortunate women as a final act of depravity and left their severed heads behind for us to find. The motivation for such a sickening act is beyond comprehension for any remotely normal human being.

“None of the SAS troops who entered Baghuz will forget what they saw, which some soldiers likened to a scene from the film Apocalypse Now. Their only solace is that they have contributed to bringing Islamic State’s reign of terror to an end.”

Surviving ISIS fighters tried to escape by going underground to a system of tunnels they constructed under the town. However, SAS mortar teams and U.S.-French artillery units pounded the openings of the tunnels which were located by drones.

About 200 jihadis still hold an area of about one-fifth of a square mile outside Baghuz where intelligence sources say an equal number of civilian hostages are held. The terror group once controlled 34,000 square miles of territory between western Syria and eastern Iraq, which they called their “caliphate” and ruled over close to 8 million people according to brutal sharia law.

In 2014, when ISIS roared into Iraq, close to 3,000 women, teenage girls and young boys were abducted by the group. The hostages were Yazidis, Christians, Turkomen and Shabak – all minority groups in Iraq. The women and girls were turned into sex slaves and the boys were recruited as the next generation of jihadis. During the takeover operations, ISIS simply slaughtered the men and teenage boys.

Reconciling "Spygate" with the "Soft Coup"

In the Conservative Treehouse, Sundance explains,
...There are five phases in the evolution of ‘Spygate’ into the ‘Soft Coup’; to reconcile the latter, which extends to today, a full review provides the clarity.

Phase One – December 2015 through April 2016: The first phase leading into ‘Spygate’ is the period of time where opposition research of the republican candidate field was taking place. It is in this period where Fusion-GPS hired CIA Open Source researcher Nellie Ohr, wife of DOJ-NSD official Bruce Ohr, to do research.

Phase Two – April 18th through July 31st 2016: At the same time as NSA Director Mike Rogers discovered a significant and unauthorized uptick in FISA-702(16)(17) database queries, and subsequently blocked access (April 18th, 2016), candidate Donald Trump became the presumptive nominee for the presidential race.

It was within this period where Fusion-GPS was commissioned by Hillary Clinton to focus exclusively on candidate Trump. Fusion held the prior search findings, and Fusion contracted Christopher Steele who later contacted the FBI through official channels. On July 31st, 2016, FBI counterintelligence operation Crossfire Hurricane became official.

An official investigation targeting the campaign of Donald Trump now held a legal, albeit sketchy and politically motivated, justification. Under the auspices of investigating Russian involvement with George Papadopoulos, Carter Page, Paul Manafort and General Michael Flynn, the FBI was now conducting full-blown surveillance on the political campaign of Donald Trump. Crossfire Hurricane was the legal cover; ‘Spygate’ begins.

Phase Four – October 21st, 2016, through January 20th, 2017: The FBI received their FISC surveillance authority two weeks before the November 8th presidential election.

Shortly after Presiding Judge Rosemary Collyer authorized the FISA warrant, NSA Director Mike Rogers went to the FISC and informed the same judge of the FISA-702(16)(17) abuses that took place in the 2016 presidential election cycle.

Judge Collyer issues an explosive opinion lambasting the FBI for their allowed abuse of the system. The DOJ head of the National Security Division, John Carlin, resigned from his position.

Ten days after the election NSA Director Mike Rogers also travelled to Trump Tower without informing his boss ODNI James Clapper.

There has been a great deal of speculation as to what Rogers told President-elect Trump during that meeting. It’s likely Director Rogers informed Trump about some of what he knew surrounding the unauthorized surveillance activity and FISA(702) exploitation. However, intelligence is highly compartmented; it’s also virtually guaranteed Rogers had no idea what the FBI did, or was doing, with the material and the larger ‘Spygate’ operation.

Phase Five – January 20th, 2017, through today: Here’s where the current background of multiple issues and questions begins to make sense.

...In 2019 both Andrew McCabe and DAG Rod Rosenstein have admitted to conversations about the best way to proceed after Comey was fired. Eventually a decision was reached to initiate a Special Counsel, Robert Mueller, to take over the entire probe.

...The first priority Mueller would hold, after a briefing from McCabe, Comey, Baker and all the FBI team; and considering the claims and evidence used to obtain the legal warrants to conduct surveillance etc; would be to prioritize investigating whether POTUS was factually a Russian asset.

...So long as Team Obama can reasonably keep claiming the originating 2016 surveillance upon the Trump campaign was an outcome of a valid counterintelligence investigative probe; which is the underpinning of their need to perpetuate the Russian election conspiracy narrative; and so long as all Obama officials who were engaged within the process keep up the story that validates the fraudulent purpose; then it is likely all players will escape legal accountability for the unlawful weaponization of the intelligence apparatus to target political opposition.

In essence, “by the book” will have been successful.

This background reality is likely what new Attorney General William Barr has been absorbing over the past several days.

"It’s up to President Trump to make sure that people like Mnuchin do not hijack what I think is otherwise a very good agenda.”

In a radio interview, Gordon Chang told Breitbart News,
“At this time, I think most Chinese people don’t buy into communism,” assessed Chang. “They are sullen. They are coarse. I mean, they do fear the party, and you can understand why. Essentially, the Communist Party has lost hearts and minds, and that’s why it’s gone to the social credit system and other things in order to obtain obedience.”

Breitbart asked,
“Do you think our government is doing enough to protect us from [Chinese] spyware, malware, and kill switches on our technology? Are we doing enough to really make sure that the technological future is separated from China, and we’re not dependent on them?”

Chang replied, “The answer to that is no, but the Trump administration, I think, is starting to see the consequences of China’s domination of things like 5G, the internet of things, technology, trade.

...He’s got, for instance, a treasury secretary, Steve Mnuchin. I think our republic is unsafe when Mnuchin is in the room with Chinese officials. It’s up to President Trump to make sure that people like Mnuchin do not hijack what I think is otherwise a very good agenda.”

...In a Wednesday-published interview with Breitbart News, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said China’s international push for global hegemony is the biggest threat America ever faced, echoing Chang’s description of the Chinese threat as existential.

Breitbart News reported, “Rubio also says that Trump should trust U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer over other advisers pushing for any kind of quick-fix deal, because he says Lighthizer understands the deeper implications at play here.”

The authors, accomplices, and dupes of this attempted overthrow of constitutional government are now well along in reciting their misconduct without embarrassment or remorse because—in fired FBI Director James Comey’s formulation—a “higher duty” than the oath they swore to uphold the Constitution compelled them. Or—in fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s words—“the threat” was too great. Nevermind that the nature of “the threat” was that the people might elect someone he and Comey disapproved of as president, and that that person might actually serve his term, as elected.

...Without realizing the proportions of the emergency, America has survived the greatest constitutional crisis since the Civil War. All those who legitimately oppose or dislike the president, including traditional high-brow Republicans who find him distasteful, should join in the condemnation of this largely criminal assault on democracy, and then, if they wish, go out and try to beat him fair and square, the good old-fashioned way, in a free election. But they must abide by the election’s result.

"And as a world-famous developer, he knows the rules of the game: deliver the project, or pay up."

CBD links to an article by Joel Pollak in Breitbart.
The Trump administration announced this week that it was canceling nearly $1 billion in grant money for California’s now-defunct high-speed rail project — and President Donald Trump is coming for the other $2.5 billion. The $2.5 billion has already been spent — but California has failed to deliver the high-speed rail (on time, or at all) as promised. Therefore, the Trump administration argues, the state has to repay federal taxpayers. [CBD]

"An insidious, sick hoax"

In the Ace of Spades blog, JJ Sefton comments on the arrest and incarceration of Jussie Smollett.
Good morning kids. Thursday is here so let's get to it. First up, now that he's been finally asked to turn turned himself in to face criminal charges, it's official: Jussie Smollett perpetrated an insidious, sick hoax in order to boost his flagging career. The way in which he did it is worse than the hoax itself, IMHO: to attempt to throw dynamite on a bonfire of the Democrat-Left-Media complex's own making, which is the disgusting blood libel of America as an unjust, racist nation with its illegitimately-elected President hoping to restore and revive the injustice and racism that undergirded its illegitimate founding. Interesting to note that it seems as if the Chicago Police had to almost be dragged kicking and screaming to look into this because of the nature of Chicago ethnic-driven politics combined with the fear of the city turning into the next Ferguson, MO.

The whole thing was so patently fraudulent and ineptly executed, to the extent that the closed circuit security camera that Smollett thought would capture the incident was pointed in the wrong direction. And that there is a massive bullet that was dodged. Even with the confirmation of this as a hoax, that video would no doubt have joined the pantheon of racialist fraud memes alongside "Hands-Up-Don't-Shoot!," "I Can't Breathe!" and the innocent-as-the-day-he-was-born graduation photo of Trayvon Martin (not the one of him flashing Flava-Flav dentures and gang hand signs).

But where is everyone in the Media, the show business self-proclaimed elite and the Democrat politicians - most notably the likes of Cory Booker and Kamala-Toe Harris - who took to the microphones and cameras within seconds of this story initially breaking to denounce Trump, whitey, heterosexuals and America for this heinous act? It's so silent, the friggin' crickets are starting to stare at each other. But that was a rhetorical question. The aforementioned are fully vested in perpetrating and perpetuating the blood-libeling of America as founded because that is how they will ultimately bamboozle enough people - as well as import them by the millions from south of the border and elsewhere - into destroying it and seizing absolute power once and for all.

"Beware of euphemisms. Radical changes in vocabulary are usually admissions that reality is unwelcome or indefensible."

In American Greatness, Victor Davis Hanson writes about Changing Reality with Words.
...Global warming was once a worry about too much heat. It implied that man-made carbon emissions had so warmed the planet that life as we knew it would soon be imperiled without radical changes in consumer lifestyles.

Yet in the last 30 years, record cold spells, inordinate snow levels and devastating rains have been common. How to square that circle?

Substitute “climate change” for global warming. Presto! Any radical change in weather could be perceived as symptomatic of too much climate-changing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Suddenly, blizzards, deluges and subzero temperatures meant that typically unpredictable weather was “haywire” because of affluent Westernized lifestyles.

...By the 1980s, a new and vaguer term, “diversity,” had increasingly replaced “affirmative action.”

...“Illegal alien”—a term still used by official government agencies—described any foreign national residing in the U.S. without government sanction. But when the numbers of those who fit the old classification grew, and the number of people invested in relaxed immigration policies expanded across the political spectrum, the term gradually metamorphosed.

If “alien,” a Latinate word deriving from the idea of “other” or “different,” sounds too outer space-like, why not substitute “immigrant”? Yet “illegal immigrant” still sounded as if breaking federal immigration laws was somehow a serious legal matter. So the vague “undocumented immigrant” superseded the old term.

...Often, “undocumented” was dropped, leaving just “immigrants”—conflating applicants who waited years for legal entry with those who swarmed the border illegally.

Increasingly we now hear just “migrants”—a vague term that further divorces illegal immigration from reality by conflating the acts of leaving and entering the country.

Democrats used to self-identify as “liberals.” The Latin etymology means “free,” as in the context of “free” thinkers not burdened by oppressive traditions, ideological straitjackets and unworkable norms.

...“liberal” included little notion of evolution and advancement. So gradually, “progressive” has eclipsed the stuffy “liberal.”

“Progressive’ infers an activist, not a neutral, ideology—one that is always moving the country in the supposedly correct direction.

...Beware of euphemisms. Radical changes in vocabulary are usually admissions that reality is unwelcome or indefensible.

Reconfigure it!

Wendy Rose Gould writes in Better,
...Negativity manifests in numerous ways, ranging from focusing on negative traits rather than positive ones, to remembering our failures and forgetting our achievements, to not being able to work our way back to a baseline mood after dealing with a negative event — no matter how minute it may be.

Though it’s a default setting, purposeful reconfiguring can help you remain more positive no matter what’s thrown your way. Here are a few ways to do so.

1. ISOLATE THE EVENT
...reframe the event and see it for what it is — a small, isolated, inconsequential setback that has no bearing on the rest of your day.

2. GET YOURSELF A MANTRA
...“Find a phrase that speaks to you to remind yourself that negativity cascades do end,” Dr. Fredrickson says. “‘This too shall pass’ is one that can work in many different circumstances. ‘At least I’m not in this alone,’ is another that fits in almost every circumstance because similar setbacks affect others as well.”

3. CUT YOURSELF SOME SLACK
Chances are, for everything that went wrong, there are a handful of things that went right. So instead of focusing on a minor misstep and letting it color the rest of your day, focus on those things you’ve done that deserve self-praise.

4. UTILIZE POSITIVE DISTRACTIONS
...“Momentary connections with others — even people you don’t know and may never meet again — can be a great source of emotional uplift. Scientists call these momentary connections ‘positivity resonance’ and they appear key to maintaining both emotional and physical health,” says Dr. Fredrickson.

5. CATALOG YOUR THOUGHTS
...keep a log of thoughts. This could be a mental, paper or digital log that you reflect on daily.

Smollett charged with a felony for filing a false police report. Faces three years in prison

abc7 in Chicago reports,
"Empire" actor Jussie Smollett has been charged with one count of felony disorderly conduct for filing a false police report, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office said Wednesday evening.

Smollett is due in court in Chicago at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Employees at Beauty House in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood said the brothers came to the business the day before the alleged attack, and a security guard said he remembers the siblings because they purchased ski masks.

Chicago police confirmed the authenticity of the surveillance video, which shows the brothers purchasing numerous items, including a red ball cap, gloves, and ski masks.

Security guard Montago Silas said he was asked by the siblings if the store sold ski masks, but the business did not have the traditional balaclava-type mask; they only carried the kind with separate eyeholes. He thought it strange that they purchased them.

After the police department investigated Smollett's attack for weeks as a possible hate crime, they discovered that one of the brothers bought the rope to be used in the attack at a local hardware store. The Chicago Sun-Times reports the store was the Crafty Beaver hardware store in Ravenswood.

ABC7 Eyewitness News learned Tuesday that Smollett pleaded no contest to DUI, driving without a license and providing false information to law enforcement in Los Angeles in 2007. He was sentenced to two years of probation and either spent three days in jail or paid a fine of $100 for the three misdemeanor charges, according to the LA city attorney's office, though it's unclear which option he chose.

If convicted of filing a false police report, which is a felony in Illinois, Smollett could face up to three years in prison.

More censoring of Christians and conservatives by Facebook

In PJ Media, Tyler O'Neil reports that Facebook has banned the account of an human rights activist ten minutes after she posted this photo of ISIS members standing over 21 Christians who were then murderered by the ISIS killers. Facebook has long censored conservative and Christian voices on the platform. Christian sexuality scholar Robert Gagnon has experienced many temporary bans. The social media platform deleted PragerU videos and did not fire the staffer responsible. Facebook even blocked world-famous evangelist Franklin Graham on Christmas week — for a transgender-critical post from 2016. Christians have begun to fight back, calling for legal reform to make social media companies vulnerable to lawsuits.

Few such incidents seem as horrendous as the blacklisting of Faith McDonnell, a champion of human rights and the persecuted church.

"although NeverTrumpers talk a lot about morality and principles, their actual beef seems to be a combination of aesthetic dislike of Trump’s messaging style, and resentment that he’s not hiring them, and never will hire them."

Glenn Reynolds writes in Instapundit,
...although NeverTrumpers talk a lot about morality and principles, their actual beef seems to be a combination of aesthetic dislike of Trump’s messaging style, and resentment that he’s not hiring them, and never will hire them. I suppose a lot of people confuse their own social standing and economic prospects with morality, but color me unpersuaded.

Perhaps in 2016 you could imagine that Trump would be such an awful President that you had a moral duty to oppose him. But in 2019, it’s obvious that that’s not the case. In fact, he’s pretty darn successful. Instead of gay concentration camps, he’s trying to end discrimination against gays worldwide. Instead of being a warmonger he’s now ending wars — and getting grief about it from NeverTrumpers. The Russia-collusion thing was always twaddle, but nobody is even pretending otherwise anymore. And Trump’s background and personal life certainly don’t stand out as compared to many other occupants of the Oval Office whom the establishment deemed entirely acceptable.

So, again, what exactly is the moral foundation of your very very moral, Solzhenitsyn-like stance?

They lie!

Dov Fischer writes in Spectator,
Today’s reality is that the United States is the most accepting diverse society on earth and has been for decades.

...I have not met a conservative in more than twenty years who cares a whit about someone’s color. That simply is not part of the conservative mindset. We measure people by their trustworthiness, resourcefulness, good cheer, skills and intelligence, and readiness to contribute to team success. Nothing else matters.

...It is a blatant lie that racism and anti-Semitism are on a dramatic rise. The Big Lie is stirred by a cynical Democrat Left that has found pay-dirt, solid gold, in dividing voters into neat pockets of identity-politics constituencies. Obama showed that he could beat a Republican opponent if he somehow could run a close race among all but one constituency, and then carry more than 90 percent of the African American vote and a big part of the Hispanic vote. Hillary tried to replicate the divide-and-conquer strategy, so — like Obama — she tried setting Blacks against Whites, Gays against Straights, Women against Men, Muslims against Christians and Jews, Latinos and other Hispanics against Caucasians. That was her “Basketful of Deplorables” trope. It worked for Obama because he actually has one Black parent, though was reared by his White mother, White grandmother, and spent all his formative life outside any classically “Black American environment,” as he grew up in Hawaii, then Indonesia, later attended Occidental College, then Columbia, then Harvard. By contrast, it did not work for Hillary because a majority of Americans simply do not like her, never particularly liked her, never will, do not trust her, and did not want more drama emerging from the #MeToo lug she would be bringing back to D.C. with her.

...The rise of cable television and of social media were the latest advances that were supposed to make our lives even better. In one era, it was the light bulb. In another, the car. Then came radio, TV, and air conditioning. And now we could watch a zillion shows and news all day and night, and we could find friends from years ago and drop them notes, and forward them emailed jokes, and FB or tweet that we were bored at work and eating spaghetti, so wassup? But those two newest advances set us back gravely. Social media meant that anyone with a keyboard and a chair in Mom’s basement secretly could ignite lies that can spread like a California wildfire. And 24/7 cable news meant that media now could make enormous amounts of money by identifying carved-out niche audiences and appealing to those targeted segments with sensationalism. The masses crave sensationalism: it is the sensationalist newspapers that are sold at the supermarket and drugstore checkout counter, not Applied Mechanics and Philosophy Today. So MSNBC identified their niche, and as Fox News took the conservative viewership, CNN abandoned any pretense of being centrist and instead moved all-out to the left. To keep viewers watching, they aimed for ever more sensationalist and overheated presentations: Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, Bourdain until he killed himself, and ever-more-extreme panels of bitter and divisive race-mongers like Van Jones and Don Lemon encouraged to say hateful things that make for great re-tweeting though they bear no relation to reality while inciting civil distrust and animus.

...It is against that backdrop that the Left media’s fixation on Hate Hoaxes now is both their obsession and our societal blight. We are a good people. We do not lynch Blacks or others. Rather, we had Loretta Lynch. Outside of New York, we smile at people we do not know as we walk down the street. When we cross a street, we wave to the driver who waits to make a right turn. We make friendly small talk at the grocery cash register, even a guy with a yarmulke when paying a woman with a hijab. We are a good people. And we deserve better than the despicable Big Lie that this country is riven on racial, gender, religious, or ethnic lines. It is a lie that Left Democrats propel for electoral gain, as Hitler lied about the Jews, the Romanis, and the Freemasons to secure power. As the Tsar lied about the Jews to maintain power. And the Democrats lie about the American People, the Basketful of Deplorables, whom they can pigeon-hole outside their favored Intersectionalists in order to return to power — no matter the cost to the society’s well-being. This Lie is what defines Enemies of the People.

...They lie. One racism or genderism hoax after another. The Oberlin College racism hoax perpetrated by campus Democrats. The racism hoax at the University of Buffalo where a Black student hung a “Whites Only” sign. The Grand Valley University racism hoax. The Montclair State University racism hoax. The University of Chicago racism hoax. The Albany racism hoax. The Princeton University racism hoax. The Vassar College racism hoax. There was no rape at the Duke University lacrosse team’s party. There was no rape at the University of Virginia. Al Sharpton’s Tawana Brawley was not thrown into a garbage dumpster, nor smeared with feces, nor even attacked. Lena Dunham lied about being raped. Blasey Ford lied to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Julie Swetnick lied about Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh. Avenatti facilitated Swetnick. It may be that a woman later lied about Avenatti. The Mattress Girl at Barnard College gained her fifteen minutes and Kirsten Gillibrand’s admiration by promoting a myth that police investigators exposed and for which Columbia University had to pay big time when it settled the falsely accused’s lawsuit. The Mediacracy lied about Nick Sandmann and the boys of CovCath, who behaved beautifully in the face of provocation by a proven liar who marched right up to them and menacingly beat a drum in their faces. Hoaxes one and all — and so many, many more — including racist lies and gender-driven lies aimed at driving up ratings, clicks, revenues, and Democrat votes.

And as for Jussie Smollett: I had heard of Empire, but I never had seen a minute of it. Most Trump MAGA conservatives, by and large, have no particular interest in a television program centering on the hip-hop music industry, even though appreciating Kanye West’s support for the President. Note that Trump rallies begin with Lee Greenwood’s “I’m Proud to Be an American,” and they end with the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” The premise from Day One that a Trump MAGA crew would go after a Jussie Smollett — someone whose name means nothing to Trump supporters, whose show means almost nothing, and frankly whose very life is irrelevant — was preposterous. In a world where conservatives express our views about Nancy Pelosi, Alec Baldwin, Robert De Niro, the Hyphen and her Green New Deal, and Jim Comey and Andrew McCabe, the notion that Trump supporters would bring a rope to lynch this irrelevant character on a show outside our horizon was beyond absurd. But it provided one more racist hoax to divide the American people, to give Democrats vying for the Presidency something to tweet about frantically, something to re-Tweet and to draw some viewers to search curiously for the channel where CNN can be found if it still is on air.

The racist hoax was unfair and a crime against the most accepting diverse society on earth.

I knew I had heard that name before.

Who is Lin Wood? Lin Wood is the Atlanta lawyer who represented Richard Jewell, who was falsely accused of the Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta in 1996. Then he went on to represent the Ramsey family in Boulder after their daughter Jon Benet was murdered.

Now he is representing Nick Sandmann against the Washington Post and 53 other defendents! You go, Mr. Wood!

The Washington Post is sued for $250,000,000 by the Covington Kid

Here it comes, ladies and gentlemen: the first lawsit filed by the parents of Nick Sandmann. This one is against Jeff Bezos' Washington Post. There are 53 other defendents to come. His lawyer, Lin Wood, tells the truth in this filing.
2.In a span of three (3) days in January of this year commencing on January 19, the Post engaged in a modern-day form of McCarthyism by competing with CNN and NBC, among others, to claim leadership of a mainstream and social media mob of bullies which attacked, vilified, and threatened Nicholas Sandmann ("Nicholas"), an innocent secondary school child.

3.The Post wrongfully targeted and bullied Nicholas because he was the white, Catholic student wearing a red "Make America Great Again" souvenir cap on a school field trip to the January 18 March for Life in Washington, D.C.when he was unexpectedly and suddenly confronted by Nathan Phillips ("Phillips"), a known Native American activist, who beat a drum and sang loudly within inches of his face ("the January 18 incident").

4.Nicholas stood quietly and respectfully for several minutes after being targeted and bullied by Phillips and Nicholas’body language remained non-aggressive and passive throughout the incident.

...

7.In targeting and bullying Nicholas by falsely accusing him of instigating the January 18 incident, the Post conveyed that Nicholas engaged in acts of racism by "swarming" Phillips, "blocking" his exit away from the students, and otherwise engaging in racist misconduct.

8.The Post ignored basic journalist standards because it wanted to advance its well-known and easily documented, biased agenda against President Donald J. Trump("the President") by impugning individuals perceived to be supporters of the President.

9.As a 16-year old secondary school student, Nicholas' political beliefs are anything but established and entrenched in his young mind.

10.Nicholas has zero history of political activism or aggressiveness and did not exhibit any such conduct even when confronted with unbridled racist attacks by activist bullies at the National Mall.

11.The Post's campaign to target Nicholas in furtherance of its political agenda was carried out by using its vast financial resources to enter the bully pulpit
by publishing a series of false and defamatory print and online articles which effectively provided a worldwide megaphone to Phillips and other anti-Trump individuals and entities to smear a young boy who was in its view an acceptable casualty in their war against the President.

12.Unlike the Post's abuse of the profession of journalism, Plaintiffs do not bring this lawsuit to use the judicial system to further a political agenda. This lawsuit is brought against the Post to seek legal redress for its negligent, reckless, and malicious attacks on Nicholas which caused permanent damage to his life and reputation.

13.The Post bullied an innocent child with an absolute disregard for the pain and destruction its attacks would cause to his life.

14.The Post proved itself to be aloud and aggressive bully with a bully pulpit.

15.In this country, our society is dedicated to the protection of children regardless of the color of their skin, their religious beliefs,or the cap they wear.

16.But the Post did not care about protecting Nicholas. To the contrary, the Post raced with a reckless disregard of the facts and truth because in this day and time there is a premium for being the first and loudest media bully.

17.The Post wanted to lead the charge against this child because he was a pawn in its political war against its political adversary –a war so disconnected and beyond the comprehension of Nicholas that it might as well have been science fiction.

18.The Post must be dealt with the same way every bully is dealt with and that is hold the bully fully accountable for its wrongdoing in a manner which effectively deters the bully from again bullying other children. In a civil lawsuit, punishment and deterrence is found in awarding money damages to the victim and target of the bully.

19.In order to fully compensate Nicholas for his damages and to punish, deter, and teach the Post a lesson it will never forget, this action seeks money damages in excess of Two Hundred and Fifty Million Dollars ($250,000,000.00) --the amount Jeff Bezos, the world's richest person, paid in cash for the Post when his company, Nash Holdings, purchased the newspaper in 2013.

Socialism, crony capitalism, being "woke"

Andrew plays a clip of President Trump speaking to Venezuelan Americans in Miami. Klavan shows how the New York Times blatantly lied about what Trump said. Why would the Times do that? Andrew says it is because they are committed to framing a narrative that some forms of Socialism are good. The Times wrote that Trump denounced Venezuela's form of socialism. Trump did not do that. He denounced Socialism in general and said the United States would never adopt Socialism.

Andrew notes that the better things get, the more small problems seem like big problems for those who do not have an attitude of gratitude. Jussie Smollett was a successful actor and nobody was surprised that a gay, black man can be successful in today's America. Yet, he was trained to believe he was oppressed. If people were not victimizing him he had to go out and pretend to be victimized! The Left has created an atmosphere in the midst of great prosperity where Socialism could be sold to us!

We went through a major economic crisis in 2008. The narrative came from the Left: "banks were not making home loans to black people." It was true that banks were not making loans to people who could not pay them back. It was not racist, but the Left threatened to come after the banks if they did not start making those loans. So banks started making loans to people who could not pay back the loans. Wall Street recklessly spread out the consequences throughout the economy. Bush warned Barney Frank and Chris Dodd of the consequences of their actions in encouraging bad loans, but Bush had little power left because of the unpopularity of his Middle East war on terror.

There were little to no consequences for the Wall Streeters. Obama was feckless as usual. Everyone wanted to be bailed out. Crony capitalism is just one step from Socialism. Who paid? You and I, the taxpayers!

Christian Toto, conservative movie critic, was Andrew's guest today. Why are the Oscars not entertaining? Because everyone wants to show how "woke" they are, not putting effort into enternaining the audience. Find Christian at Hollywoodintoto.com.

And the Good News Is...

Remember in December 2008 when President Bush made a surprise trip to Iraq and an Iraqi "journalist" threw his shoes at our president? Did you know that the then Press Secretary Dana Perino was injured in the ensuing melee? As the second shoe was being thrown, a Secret Service agent charged to the front and knocked over the mic stand. The steel arm hit Dana in her upper cheekbone just below her eye. She tells about it in the opening chapter of her book, And the Good News Is...

Learning from Jussie

The Babylon Bee reports,
WASHINGTON, D.C.—In a statement to D.C. police given Tuesday, senator and presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren claimed that two men in colonial outfits accosted her on the street and assaulted her with smallpox-infected blankets.

Warren claimed she was simply on her evening walk with her favorite peyote blend when the two men leaped out of the bushes, fired a round, spent several minutes reloading their muzzle-loading rifles, fired again, and then hollered "battle cries" as they hurled smallpox-infested blankets at her.

"The men fired muskets at me, threw several blankets infested with smallpox in my general direction, and told me this was colonial country," she said, holding back tears. "They told me to go back to my reservation and that I wasn't welcome here."

According to Warren, the men stuck a feather in her hair and then called her "macaroni" before dancing around her in a mock Native American rain dance.

"It is just despicable to me that in 2019 a woman can still be targeted for lynching because of her .0001% Indian heritage," she said in a press conference. "This is Trump's America, people."

Police quickly poked holes in Warren's story, such as the fact that she never dropped her peace pipe throughout the ordeal and that she left the smallpox blankets and mock Indian headdress on herself as she walked to the police department to make her statement.

"It is a unique privilege to be an American."

In The American Spectator, Dov Fischer writes about privilege - the privilege of being an American.
Were all the Native American tribes unified in one massive Coca-Cola commercial in Little Big Horn, arms around each other in some kind of hora, singing:

“I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.
I’d like to hold it in my arms and keep it company.
I’d like to build the world a home and furnish it with love.
I’d like Liz Warren for Tribal Chief and Stacey for the Guv.”

No, not really. They were butchering and scalping people, too, doing it to each other. It was a complicated world. But from those Europeans came not only the people who perpetrated the grave historic evil of slavery but also the more-than-300,000 White males who gave their lives courageously and died fighting or from disease while engaged in the Civil War battlefields, all in the name of Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation to end slavery. It was White males who were compelled to leave their loved ones to go to liberate our allies from tyranny during World War I. Again, White Male privilege saw the honor of being summoned by one’s nation and neighbors to go to Normandy and to Market Garden and to Hürtgen Forest and to Bataan and Midway and Guadalcanal and Saipan and Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Many brave African Americans went, too. Perhaps the bravest and most heroic were America’s Japanese-American fighters who fought for a country that then was rounding up and interning their very families. But that, too, is what it means to be suffused with Male privilege.

Being a male is not only about choosing a lavatory (in places where the choice still is offered). Being a male means accepting certain burdens and responsibilities because the testosterone hormone impacts muscle development and strength, so demands more in certain areas. Being a male means that, when the tragedy of divorce hits, the family court judge almost-always will see two contending divorcing parents, each demanding maximal child custody for themselves and to be paid maximal alimony and child support from the other — and knowing that, almost always, the male will get hit with paying the alimony and the child support while the female will get the extra time with the kids.

Finally, being a White male means thanking G-d every day for a world balanced with females who bear so many of the awesome and enormous responsibilities — beginning with childbirth — that males biologically cannot do. It means understanding the Biblical advisory that it is not good for man to live on his own. We cannot do it without females. We cannot survive without females — not just in the biological and reproductive sense, but in the culture and civilization sense. When an all-male society is created, as during the Gold Rush and Wild West, history records that the society cannot function civilly long-term without women. There is something existential in the need each gender has for the other, and it goes beyond reproducing the species. In today’s world, where we have advanced to see women’s great academic and entrepreneurial heights of attainment, we marvel also at how women successfully defy all challenges to scale those plateaus even as they bear additional burdens that men often do not. And fair-minded women marvel at men who paradoxically do the same, only differently.

"The Smollett hoax comes fresh on the heels of the media’s starring role in the Racist Covington High School Hoax, the Brett Kavanaugh Serial-Rapist Hoax, and most of all, the imploding Trump Colluded With Russia Hoax."

John Nolte is an excellent reporter at Breitbart who time after time shows how the national media gets stories wrong. The latest example is the Jussie Smollett hoax. Utterly false reports at AP, New York Post, CNN, PBS, NAACP, GQ, Washington Post, NBC, Vanity Fair, Nightline, BuzzFeed, L.A. Times, Vox, Daily Beast are identified by Nolte.

Nolte quotes Brian Stelter (pictured), who said on CNN,
..."I think it was a really careful reporting by news organizations. But it all gets lumped in together at the end of the day.”

It makes sense for Stelter to muddy the waters like this. After all, the Smollett hoax comes fresh on the heels of the media’s starring role in the Racist Covington High School Hoax, the Brett Kavanaugh Serial-Rapist Hoax, and most of all, the imploding Trump Colluded With Russia Hoax.

Unfortunately for Stelter, his shameless spin is easily exposed as such by countless tweets, headlines, and statements made by his fellow journalists and pundits — including four high-profile staffers at CNN.

Let’s start with videotape of a CNN anchor: “Absolutely despicable,” said CNN’s Brooke Baldwin on CNN Newsroom, “and this is America in 2019.”

CNN anchor Don Lemon said the following on a popular podcast: “One, he has to deal with discrimination as a black man,” said Lemon, “then, on top of that, he has to be gay — and then, fame — fame is not natural — When something happens to you and it’s controversial, everyone is coming for you, and so I knew everyone would be picking apart his story.”

CNN’s April Ryan still hasn’t deleted this tweet: “This attack on @JussieSmollett is a hate crime and should be treated as such!”

Twitter's "political neutrality"

In Quillette, Richard Hanania writes,
It is unthinkable that we would allow a telephone or electricity company to prevent those on one side of the political aisle from using its services. Why would we allow social media companies to do the same?

...I decided to look into the issue of Twitter bias by putting together a database of prominent, politically active users who are known to have been temporarily or permanently suspended from the platform. My results make it difficult to take claims of political neutrality seriously. Of 22 prominent, politically active individuals who are known to have been suspended since 2005 and who expressed a preference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, 21 supported Donald Trump.

Bravo, Stephen Miller!

Donald Trump's brilliant advisor Stephen Miller goes head to head with liberal Chris Wallace. "George Bush did not defend the border," says Miller. "Illegal immigration doubled from 6-12 million by the time Bush left office. That represented an astonishing betrayal of the American people!"

The issue is obviously way too complicated for Wallace to understand. "What you're missing, Chris..." "Can you name one country where American troops are, where there are more deaths than those caused by people coming through our Southern border" Chris answers, "The joy of this is I get to ask you the questions!" He asks the question, then interrupts Miller as he answers. Add Chris Wallace to Juan Williams and Shep Smith as the three most annoying people at Fox News!

McCabe's interview and book: A signed confession!

Joe DiGenova was interviewed on WMAL this morning about last night's 60 Minutes interview of Andrew McCabe. Joe says Scott Pelly and CBS "accidentally performed a public service."

Joe says Bill Barr will be the "worst nightmare" of the people who sought to stage a coup.

Rosenstein is a "thug and the worst example of when career bureaucrats become politically motivated...who engaged in sedition and subversion...pathetic."

"Notice that McCabe never articulates what the basis was for investigating the president, because there was none!"

National emergency on the border, and Republicans like Rubio are afraid to defend their president!

Trump has a pot of about $8 billion before he even gets to the national emergency declaration!
