Alcohol-induced illness hits 35-year high in America

Record numbers of Americans are drinking themselves to death as alcohol-induced illness hit a 35-year high.

Alcoholism has become the leading cause of preventable death in the United States after rates of alcohol poisoning and cirrhosis soared up by 37 per cent since 2002, the Washington Post reported.

Last year alone, more than 30,700 people died from conditions stemming from alcohol abuse, according to figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveal.
