Eric Cantor defeated

There is a huge political story tonight. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor has been defeated in the Virginia Republican primary by an economics professor named David Brat. Breaking down the votes will be crucial to understanding what are the lessons from this stunning upset. By that I mean, what role did Democrats play? Did they vote in the primary? Here in Colorado we know that lots of Democrat money is being spent to try to help Tom Tancredo win the Republican primary, figuring that Tancredo would be the easiest for Governor Hickenlooper to beat in this fall's gubernatorial election.

Then again, if Democrats did not influence the election in Virginia, it tells us that immigration legislation is dead (Cantor supported liberalizing immigration laws), and the Tea Party or Republican base is ready to rock the political world this fall.
