Obesity: worse here, or in Mexico?

Blazing Cat Fur has a story about Mexico having the worst obesity rates in North America. My own experience is that Mexicans here in the United States purchase a greater percentage of produce and way less junk food than do Americans. For example, Roma tomatoes and jalapeno peppers are an absolute mandatory part of Mexicans' diets here in America. Mangos, too, are very common in their daily eating. I think Americans will soon surpass Mexicans in the obesity department. We are surely the most sugar-addicted country on earth.
