Eliminate hate?

I am so proud of my kids. Thirteen-year-old Jonathan was required to listen to the John Lennon song "Imagine" at school the other day. He came home and wrote a response. The song was played under the class theme of "Social Justice." I will post what Jon wrote as soon as I get a copy from his mom.

As I understand it, the teacher was asking the kids not to hate. Jon thought that was ridiculous. If you don't hate evil, then you will just let evil flourish, right? He wrote that and more to the teacher, and guess what? She changed the topic from eliminating hate to eliminating evil!

In the same class, each student was given a photo of the Mona Lisa, and asked to write a story about the Mona Lisa. Jon put her in a burka, and portrayed her as trying to escape oppressive radical Islam.

See why I am proud?

I am also very proud of Jon's mother, Colleen. She has that teacher on speed dial. The teacher told Colleen that many parents had expressed concerns. Colleen said, "What about the kids? Are you listening to their concerns?"
