Hundreds of federal and local law enforcement officers fanned out across the city early Wednesday morning and stormed homes and storefronts to nab leaders of the Mara Salvatrucha gang.
The operation, which was part of a three-year investigation into the violent gang, is the latest step in a multi-agency anti-racketeering case.
Authorities - headed by the FBI - arrested 21 people at more than 40 locations on various charges, including narcotics trafficking and other violent crimes. Many of them were illegal immigrants.
