Once again this week David Harsanyi has written a very provocative column. This time his subject was the gullibility of Americans. We believe almost anything! David thinks it is because we want to believe someone is in control, someone can help us make sense of things.
So, what are some of the weird things we believe? We believe that 9-11 was a conspiracy of our own government. We believe UFOs exist. We believe Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul should be President of the United States! We believe there is an Illuminati ruling class that controls everything in Washington D.C. We believe that all you have to do to understand someone is to learn their astrological signs or numerology.
Harsanyi hits the nail on the head in his concluding paragraphs, where he states that to realize that no one is in control is even more frightening than "tales of furtive organizations that control our destinies."

I dunno...I believe God is in control ultimately although He obviously allows us free choice even to choose evil as so many of us do. But I've seen this among my friends...they are actually afraid to take responsibility for their own actions. Why not? It's so freeing on so many levels.
