Colleen's Latest Farming Project

Our chicks are now almost one month old.

So, it is time for them to go out into the world. Or, at least, time for them to go into our homemade contraption we call our pasteured poultry wagon. Each day we will move it to a different part of the property, so they can eat new bugs, and we can fertilize a new area. In four weeks, seven of them (the Rhode Island Reds) will go to a hen house, where they will become laying hens. Fifty of them, all roosters, will go into our freezer.

P.S. Fifty more "broilers" are coming Monday.

That takes me back to my childhood and my grandmother's chickens.
