Are you an undocumented journalist?

Tanker is "an undocumented journalist" who writes the Mostly Cajun, All American Opinionated blog, which I have been reading for years. Tanker writes today that it was a nice Republic while it lasted. He is referring to the efforts by Dianne Feinstein and others to make sure the First Amendment does not apply to any person who does not write for

“an entity or service that disseminates news and information.”

Tanker writes,

At some point in prior history, it was easier to see who was a real journalist and who wasn’t. Not any more. Anybody with access to the internet (like me) can throw up a website and publish. And if what’s published is information inconvenient to the government, they want to be able to come get you and force you to tell then where you got it. Right now, they can’t. A journalist does not have to reveal his sources.

So what does Congress want to do to fix that? Simple. They want to be able to say who a REAL journalist is. They want you to have to work for one of their pet media outlets, where ostensibly, you WON’T go asking inconvenient questions, otherwise you’re not a REAL journalist and can therefore be hounded and jailed until they find out who leaked their nefarious designs.

With the nationwide assault on the Second Amendment not doing so well, the left is now going after the First. Remember it?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
