Times Have Changed

Sunday the University of Colorado will play the University of Alabama in the Liberty Bowl. Columnist Woody Paige has written an excellent piece here about the first time Colorado played Alabama, which was in the 1969 Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee. The seven black players on Colorado's team faced hideous taunting before and during the game. There were several interesting twists to the story, which Paige does a very good job of outlining.

I'm pretty much just watching the Rose Bowl. Since USC's come back to the top ranks the last few years, it's been like when I was a kid.

Of course, I'll watch the New England game tomorrow as well. Now that reminds me of old times - the Dolphins back in what, 1972?

donald,
The main point of Mr. Paige's article was the stupid hatred that the black players experienced amd endured and overcame in 1969. Now, if a coach wants to be a winner, he must recruit black players. Legendary Alabama coach Bear Bryant had over fifty black players on the last Alabama team he coached.
