Beer bellies are okay; sugar bellies are out

Beginning Tuesday, if you live in New York City, your sugary drink can be no larger than 16 ounces. Yes, that includes energy drinks and sweetened fruit smoothies. Why would you need to sweeten fruit smoothies? I don't know. Mayor Bloomberg is the guy who has pushed this legislation. He wants to do something about obesity, which has increased from 18% of New Yorkers ten years ago to 24% today. What, they go around measuring people?

Of course, people will get around the regulations, which do not affect 7-11s or grocery stores. People will just waddle into grocery stores, get in the electric carts, fill up the carts with big sodas, and ask for help out to their cars.

For some reason, beer is not affected. You can still get a huge cup of beer while yelling at the refs and watching Carmelo Anthony run up and down the court. Beer bellies are okay, but sugar bellies are out.

Update: A judge halted the soda ban in New York City today. Read his order here: http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/text-courts-decision-halt-soda-ban_706761.html
