"Islamophobia"

Dr. Sanity on "Islamophobia"

The truth is that "Islamophobia" is not a phobia at all-- it is a completely rational fear of an insane and irrational movement that threatens to swallow the world. Being afraid of the "religion of peace" after the innumerable acts of violence, terror and depravity committed in the name of its god across the globe is not an exaggerated response to its savagery; it is not at all inexplicable; and most certainly it is not illogical in the slightest.

Being afraid of ruthless moral savages who fanatically believe in Islam as they continually denounce and limit freedom of speech and thought; as well as spit on all the key values of Western civilization, is far from a phobia--rather, it is a natural response to the sad reality of Islam as it is practiced in much of the Middle East and around the world.

The leaders of Islam appear to suffer from a bad case of "victim envy"; for all intents and purposes desirous of acquiring the label of victim even as they go around victimizing the rest of the world with their suicidal rage; and even as they plan the final solution for the demonized Jewish population.

When "Islamophobia" is used as a bludgeon to accuse and attack anyone who makes the mildest criticism of Islam--no matter how well-meaning that criticism may be--the attack becomes yet another psychological projection by Muslims that deflects and hides their own sense of shame, humiliation and inferiority.

I think the problem with this commentary is that it doesn't take in the whole picture. As C.S. Lewis and others have written, if we want to be a fair critic of other faiths, we must meet them at their highest. There's no arguing with the fact that Islam has inspired unthinkable atrocities, but so have atrocities been committed in the name of Christianity. Is it fair to say that Fred Phelps' message of hate and judgment is the message of Christ? I don't think so. Is the message of Bin Laden representative of the message of Islam?

Ryan, Thanks for daring to comment! I refer you to my recent re-post from another blog entitled , In the Name of Islam: "Since the terror attack that should have been the one to end all others, 9/11, there have been 19,680 deadly attacks, with over 260,000 deaths, all in the name of Islam. This is not a few people “that have hijacked a religion”.

But is that what was taught by Muhammad? If we look at the 5 pillars of Islam, none of them mention violence or jihad: creed, prayer, alms giving, fasting, and pilgrimage. If we look at the history, the early Muslims were a small persecuted group, so it seems fair to say that their fighting was defensive. If we look at Muhammad's teaching on jihad, he called physical fighting "little jihad" and the fight for purity of one's self the "greater jihad". I don't disagree that Muslims have rallied themselves to violence and terror, but I don't find that in the teaching of the Koran. Just as I don't find justification for the Spanish Inquisition, nor the murderous Crusades in the teachings of Christ. In my mind there are two different battles we're fighting, one is against those who are primarily terrorists (and Muslim in name), and the second battle is with peaceful Muslims for the hearts and minds of the next generation, who are searching for the Truth. We simply cannot let the message of Christ go silent. The Truth of Christ is so striking that the message of Muhammad and others pales in comparison.
