One of the first things the kids and I did this weekend was to go and see the movie 2016: Obama's America. Dinish D'Souza takes us on a journey into Obama's past. How did that past affect who Obama is? Do we really know him? D'Souza grew up in India, and saw America as a land of liberty, where he could have real opportunities. Obama was schooled by his mother's radical views, as she was attracted to ideas of communism and socialism. He saw America as a colonial power, stripping raw materials from poor countries.
After the movie, son Jon cut right to the chase. "Dad, isn't America anti-colonialism?"
I answered, "Yes, Jon, we are."
Greg was most affected by the information in the film that pointed out the staggering debt that will have to be paid off by his generation.
Sara was surprised to learn that Obama grew up without his father, just with the fantasy image of his father portrayed by his mother. Also, Sara was glad there was a chicken in the film, because she has a pet chicken named Broodie whom she plays with every day after school.

while I was not too surprised at the info I was amazed at the fact that obama idolized his father and when converted by the truth of his father rejected that image.
