Do we need a "much broader discussion" about using plastic bags? While it might save a few birds to use reusable bags, what is the cost? Not just the cost monetarily, or in lack of convenience, but also in terms of human health? Over ninety percent of people who use reusable bags say they never wash them. Cases of stomach viruses and Ecoli are on the rise in areas where politicians force people not to use plastic bags.
