But God is love, forgiveness and grace. Those who believe in Him and repent of their sins have the promise of His Holy Spirit to guide us and show us the Way.

Christmas: a time to get more possessions?
What famous person said,
‘Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.’” (Luke 12:15)
Then why do we celebrate His birth by making sure our loved ones have more possessions?
Not that I would advocate for more possessions but aren't our gifts in remembrance of the first "treasures presented him gifts of gold and incense and myrrh." I don't see anything wron with gifts from the heart whi ch honor and cherish our loved ones, even lavish gifts should be cherished, like the perfume poured on Jesus feet. But I agree with your sentiment that today's focus on the gift for its own sake is in danger of losing sight of the meaning of Christmas ...
... the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
