Did Ted Cruz mislead his supporters?

Charles C. Cooke writes at National Review that Ted Cruz was guilty of lawyerly duplicity last night in his back and forth with Marco Rubio.
...That he chose to mislead his supporters nonetheless betrayed a certain disrespect for their intelligence. If, as his truest advocates continue to suggest, he is the “only one” who can beat the mistrusted front-runner on the other side of the aisle, he’ll have to do better next time around.
