It is time for a conversation about zero tolerance policies

A senior in high school, captain of the volleyball team, honors student, receives a call from a friend, asking her to come get the friend who is at a party and has been drinking. The honors student is at work, and goes to get her friend after work. The school suspends her from playing in the next five volleyball games.

Is it time to have a conversation about ending zero tolerance policies in public schools? Do we want kids to become like school administrators, unable to weigh facts before making decisions?
