We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

As my family, our community, and our country prepares to celebrate Independence Day, I have been thinking a lot about what is happening in regards to our current government. This naturally leads me to think a great deal about the blessings of liberty so eloquently spoken of in the Preamble, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Liberties that are being sneaked away under cover of darkness in back room deals and often without anyone even reading or understanding what is actually being done. We need a system of justice. A means to enforce the laws we choose to have over our communities and country. Courts, judges, a jury of our peers, and such. Legal justice. Real justice. Justice under the law. Not the social justice being perpetrated on us by a government willing to steal from some to give to others.

Domestic tranquility is something sorely missing from many of our communities, even many homes, at present. Gang violence and crime are running rampant in many communities, particularly those ruled by Democrats and those where law-abiding citizens are pretty much denied the right to firearms. The constant attacks on traditional values are also taking its toll as shown by the breakdown of the family unit. In too many places where there is no love at home how can there possibly be tranquility. Home is not a refuge anymore. The streets are not a safe place to be either.

I do want my government to provide for the common defense. I want them to provide a standing army and police forces. Beyond that, I can take care of myself thank you very much . . . assuming the government does not confiscate my guns and leave me defenseless against those who would harm me and mine.

Promote the general welfare apparently means two different things to me and to the government. I view it as helping to ensure that the weak among us are protected. Orphans, widows, handicapped, etc. The government, especially this administration, seems to view it as spreading welfare benefits across the board and penalizing prosperity until we are all on the government dole.

I am finding it harder and harder to hope we can secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. The encroachment of the government into the details of our lives makes liberty a lessening option with each passing day. They intrude into the most personal aspects of life. They pass ever increasing laws to regulate almost anything except our thoughts . . . and sometimes I think they are trying to penalize us for what they think we might be thinking.

I hope all of my readers take a moment today to really read the Preamble and think about what it means. Share it with your children, your family, your friends. Our perfect union is being crumbled into dust by the prying fingers of an intrusive government. We must fight back to again secure the blessings of liberty that this country was founded upon. We must do it for ourselves and our posterity.
