He's right, my teeth are bad!

Former Colorado Governor and Presidential candidate Richard Lamm says we have moral myopia when it comes to health care in America. He writes that we spend too much money on obscure technology and too little on universal coverage. He says we have 829,000 people here in Colorado who have no health insurance. He particularly decries our lousy teeth and gums.

America denies health care to more people than any developed country on earth. We win the gold medal when it comes to rationing: 48 million of our neighbors (15 percent) are without health insurance. The Institute of Medicine finds that 20,000 of them die each year because of the lack of health coverage. Additionally, the U.S. has some of the worst teeth and gums in children in the developed world. Our priorities are all toward the big and the technical.

Lamm was Governor of Colorado for twelve years from 1975-1987. Wasn't that enough time for him to do something about it? And, by the way, who is responsible for the health of my teeth?
