In Jimmy Carter's mind, Christianity and Islam both are responsible for the worldwide oppression of women. Carter equates Christianity's refusal to allow women to be priests and pastors with Islam's genital mutilation of young girls.
Jimmy Carter was the last Democrat I voted for. I know, please forgive me. He seemed at the time of his election to be a man of the people, walking the street during his Inauguration Day ceremonies. I was impressed. That pretty much summarizes the depth of my thinking at the time.
