Let there be light!

June begins the rainy season in Japan. That is when fireflies get together to mate. Japanese photographer Yume Cyan spent some time in a forest taking long exposure photographs of the fireflies as they lit up the forest. See more photos here.

We used to have a lot of fireflies here in the D.C. area. Not so much now -- not that this area is an edge city.

Still, I do occasionally see fireflies on my property because I have a large lawn and a wooded lot.

We don't see them here in Colorado. I saw them, chased them, and bottled them as a boy growing up in Iowa.
