Give yourself maximum pondering time

Make time for play! Create an oasis by setting boundaries of space and time. It is easier to do trivial things that are urgent, than it is to do important things that are not urgent, like thinking. Give yourself time to play with the problem for a while. Then your ultimate decision may be more creative!

Are you one of those people who must always project an image of themselves as decisive? I have a supervisor at work who is that way. Sometimes when I initiate a discussion with him about a problem that needs to be solved, I first get up close to him, and say, "Now please listen to every aspect of this before giving me the solution!" He is just so eager to project an image of decisiveness, that he doesn't give himself time to ponder creative solutions. I do love the guy, though, because he tries to be responsive.

Why do people see humor as a threat? Humor is an essential part of spontaneity, an essential part of playfulness, an essential part of the creativity we need to solve problems! Set up a space/time oasis, and giggle all you want!

One of my favorite people: John Cleese (thinking about a 22 inch waist)
