Panda and the rainbow

A story by Sara Agard, age nine. The story is inspired by The Hen and the Apple Tree by Arnold Lobel.

THE PANDA AND THE RAINBOW

One November evening Panda looked out of her front yard. There was an enormous rainbow standing right in front of her front yard.

"That is really strange," thought the Panda. "Was this here yesterday?"

"Yes, I was here yesterday, but you couldn't see me," said the rainbow.

"And why is that?" said the Panda.

"Maybe because there are some of us who get here sooner than others," said the rainbow.

Panda looked at the rainbow and said, "I have never seen a rainbow with very dark colors. Could that be possible?"

"There are some of us who do have very dark colors. Indeed, we do," said Rainbow.

"Hmmmmm," said Panda. "I've never seen a rainbow with a mouth."

"Some of us do have mouths, because we have special powers from our God, Mr. Rainbow."

"Really?" "I heard that if you throw a whole bucket of mine turtles on a rainbow, the rainbow will disappear."

"Don't even try it, Panda," said Rainbow in a snotty voice.

"I'm gonna go get a whole bucket of mine turtles, and I am going to throw them on you, to see if that is true!"

Panda got a bucket of mine turtles and threw it onto the rainbow. Rainbow started to faint.

Panda said, "You little rascal! You tricked me into thinking you were a talking rainbow, but you're a doughnut dog! I'll get you for this!"

Doughnut dog felt sorry because he was just trying to have some fun with Panda.

(Editor's note: Doughnut dog uses rainbows, because donuts change colors each month for holidays. Mine turtles are turtles with a button. If you press the button, you will disappear or explode.)
