Another vet speaks out!

A must watch from a U.S. veteran of the war in Afghanistan

Defense Secretary Austin has a hard time answering a simple question

"Someone, please help me answer this question!"

Time to fire some military and intelligence people

Glenn Reynolds writes,
US forces fled Bagram under cover of darkness, with no warning to anyone. (But botched even that, turning off the lights as they left, which gave looters free rein for many hours before Afghan officials showed up.)
Not only did that midnight skedaddle deprive us of a valuable resource (we could use a secure airfield about now), it signaled weakness to the Afghans on both sides of that country’s civil war. When the Soviets left Afghanistan, they were defeated, but they left in order; we snuck out like a guilty lover with a husband approaching the front door.
Our efforts were marked by institutional failure at every level, from the lack of planning at the top to the spooks who told us, last Thursday, that the Afghan army might hold out for more than 90 days (it lasted fewer than 90 hours). These are the same intelligence agencies, by the way, that spent four years promoting the exploded “Russian-collusion” fable.
To begin with, Milley must resign or be fired. And the same for our triple-masking defense secretary, Lloyd Austin. This was a failure that happened on their watch, and it happened through bad management. We could have pulled out without nearly the level of chaos, confusion and terror.
Likewise, the intel agencies and officers who provided the bad, er, intelligence need to go. Many others who failed, from contractors to lower-level officers and bureaucrats, need to go, too. You punish a bureaucracy by shrinking its staff and cutting its budget. That needs to happen here.
The brass and agencies will complain that it was Biden who ultimately made the call. Indeed, they are already furiously leaking to that effect to the press. Maybe they’re right. But it’s up to voters to fire the president at the ballot box. If they thought what Biden planned was disastrous, they should have resigned in protest. But they didn’t.
Our society is run by a technocratic-managerial class that never pays a price for failure. Democracy is a glossy finish over an unelected administrative state that isn’t really accountable to anyone and measures success or failure in terms of budgets, p.r. and power, not results.

Why has the CDC embarked upon this damaging and unscientific course?

John Hinderaker writes,
Many millions have been vaccinated without incident, but side effects, sometimes serious, are by no means rare. There is no scientific reason to pressure a person who has recovered from covid to also be vaccinated. The whole point of a vaccine, after all, is to mimic the effect of actually having the disease.
Many nurses, knowing this and having seen side effects in patients, are declining to be vaccinated. I believe that currently the unvaccinated portion of nurses is around 25%. Some hospital systems are now barring them from working, and hospitals have begun canceling surgeries and other treatment because of a self-induced shortage of nurses.
So the CDC’s refusal to acknowledge the scientific reality of natural immunity has serious consequences, even apart from the side effects that some of those who are vaccinated needlessly will experience. Why has the CDC embarked on this damaging and unscientific course? I wish I knew.

We know the answer!

Ridin' with Biden

Famous last words

Biden's partners

Michael Walsh writes,
Biden couldn’t do it alone, of course. But with partners such as Gen. Mark Milley as the “woke” chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Antony Blinken at State; Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon; William Burns at the CIA, which just put another “O-fer” on the board by failing to accurately assess the situation in Kabul; and veteran Democrat operative Ron Klain as his chief of staff, he’s had plenty of help, particularly from the country’s malignant media, which fans the flames of “social justice,” gender studies, largely manufactured racial resentment, and sexual deviancy.
What’s needed now is to return to first principles. Cut the Pentagon by at least half and abolish the CIA. Retire every military officer higher than a major general or rear admiral (there must be some penalty for failure and dereliction of duty) and start promoting on the basis of ability, not ideology. Expunge “social justice” from the service academies and refocus on their only mission: winning on the battlefield.
Therefore, in conclusion, one last, especially painful thing: Send the disgraced generals and the venal politicians and the pusillanimous warmongers in the media to personally visit every Gold Star family, look them in the eye, and tell them that their children died in Iraq and Afghanistan for absolutely nothing. And then promise them that it will never happen again.

More failure

Another from Ace of Spades:
More Failure: US Government Sends Out Email Telling Americans To Make Their Way to Airport -- But the US Is Not in Control of the Roads, and the Taliban Have Encircled the Airport and Are Shooting At People Who Try to Get In
The Taliban aren't just shooting at people; they're also whipping them with chains. I would say this is incredible but that's a lot like "inconceivable," isn't it?

"God have mercy on him whom the Ruling Class and its servitors find inconvenient."

Ace of Spades reports,
Man Sent to Prison For Almost Three Years After Being Mistakenly Identified as a Wanted Man; Every Time He Insisted He Wasn't the Man They Claimed He Was, They Sent Him to a Mental Hospital to be Injected with Anti-Psychotic Drugs —Ace
All they had to do was to compare fingerprints and photos -- which they had on file -- to determine the man they arrested was not the man they sought. But they didn't bother.
He was finally released -- "in secret." Because no one wanted to admit their callous incompetence. The Afghanistan Debacle makes a whole lot more sense, suddenly. God have mercy on him whom the Ruling Class and its servitors find inconvenient.

Thoughts on Afghanistan and our leaders

New Neo writes,
Joe Biden wanted to be able to point to having pulled out of Afghanistan for the big 20-year anniversary of 9/11. The haste and the lack of planning and the terrible execution of the withdrawal now ensures a heightened sense of danger from terrorism for that anniversary instead.
Meanwhile the world laughs at us, and rightly so. This nation has become a mockery of what it once was, and it’s not just on the presidential level but it’s on a host of important other levels as well. For this post I’ve left out agencies and branches of government such as the DOJ and the CDC and the FBI and the IRS and the courts and Congress, because they don’t seem to be especially involved in this particular debacle. But they are to be included in the larger scheme of things. Is there a single part of the federal government that is actually competent, or that has America’s well-being at heart? I don’t think so.
