Not sure why

From the satirical Babylon Bee:
Man Who Just Reads News And Social Media All Day Unsure Why He's So Depressed

FORT WORTH, TX—Local Christian man Brian Lawrence gets up in the morning and does his daily devotionals on Facebook, Twitter, and his favorite news sites. This time of reading and meditation can go on for hours as he reads more and more about the bleak state of the country and the world.

He's also incredibly anxious and depressed and is not sure why.

"I wish God had given us some eternal words of truth that could comfort me and call me to behold the good and the beautiful instead of the depressing and the stupid," he lamented as he refreshed Facebook again, his phone dinging to notify him about yet another dumb thing some dumb politician said. "Ugh, here we go again. On to the next dumb thing."

Lawrence has recently discovered political podcasts, which he hopes will help with the depression and stuff.

What is this?

Some tweets I liked today

Ben Carson tweeted,
President
@realDonaldTrump
and I agree that the best-run communities are the ones run locally. Today, we are tearing down the Obama Administration's Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule, which was an overreach of unelected Washington bureaucrats into local communities.

Sara Carter tweeted,
Fmr. #Democrat Congressman Charged With Ballot Fraud

Among the many charges, Michael Myers is accused of "fraudulently stuffing the ballot boxes for specific candidates in the 2014, 2015, and 2016 primary elections, bribery of an election official"

Bevelyn Beatty tweeted,

Tom Fitton tweeted,
Wow. Obama federal judge moves to interfere with federal law enforcement trying to manage communist rioters trying to kill federal officers and burn down a federal courthouse. Antifa must be jumping for joy.

Andrew Cuomo tweeted,
There should be a national mask mandate.
Marisa responded to Cuomo,
The death rate would be under 100,000 (same as typical flu season) if 5 Democrat governors, including you, had not mandated the plague into your nursing homes.

Our whole country is in upheaval because of you 5.

You should resign, crawl into a hole, and never come out.

Joe Pags tweeted,
We now know #Hydroxychloroquine IS an effective treatment. The #Media got it wrong. #Fauci was floundering for no reason.

Why BLM hates the nuclear family

In the Federalist, Auguste Meyrat writes in part,
By now, people are realizing that Black Lives Matter (BLM) is less an organization committed to improving the black community, and more a Marxist group exploiting racial tensions to push its agenda. According to a recent poll, “70 percent of respondents think that the movement has not improved race relations, with 38 percent saying Black Lives Matter has made race relations worse.” After so much agitation and protest, BLM has little to show for itself besides fomenting chaos in urban America and coaxing millions of dollars from white elites hoping to expiate feelings of guilt.

Besides the lackluster outcome of its campaign, what has bothered people most about BLM is its core beliefs, which often stray from the concerns of many black Americans. In particular, BLM opposes the nuclear family.

Biden limits his exposure. (What else is new)?

In Breitbart, Kyle Olson reports,
Joe Biden continued to limit his exposure to reporters on Tuesday when he finished a speech and said he would take questions “at another time.”

...Biden held his last press conference on June 25, where he called on reporters from a prepared list. That was 84 days after the previous one.

"Ocasio-Cortez is confident that she'll receive at least a B minus. "

From the satirical Babylon Bee:
THE BRONX, NY—Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was up all night last night studying for her Covid-19 test, which she took this morning. While her results won't be in for approximately four days, Ocasio-Cortez is confident that she'll receive at least a B minus.

"Literally you guys, I've been awake for like 30 hours right now," she told viewers in a live stream, just before taking the test. "And look at this, I'm still hitting the books!" Ocasio-Cortez then held up a high school science book so all her fans could see how smart she is.

While Ocasio-Cortez stayed up all night studying for the test like a good student, most of the other people at CVS said they hadn't studied at all. Ocasio-Cortez explained that most of the people at the pharmacy seemed to be conservatives, so it’s no wonder they didn’t study. “What we’re seeing here is a complete lack of effort from conservatives, and it’s embarrassing,” she explained.

"I've been up all night,” the freshman congresswoman tweeted at 5 a.m. “And I now know more about the Coronavirus than probably anyone on the planet. Did you know Covid-19 is literally the most dangerous disease of our time? Another fun fact: you don't actually catch it from drinking Corona. I know. I tested it."

President Trump, after receiving news that Ocasio-Cortez had taken the test and probably done well, immediately took to Twitter: “I’ll take the test right now. NO STUDYING NECESSARY. I guarantee my score will be MUCH HIGHER than little Miss Socialist Utopia-Cortez. Pathetic!”

Back the Blue!

"Democrats are assuming that with full control of the media, they can convince people that all this is Trump’s fault."

William L. Gensert writes in part in the American Thinker,
For the first time in the history of plague and pandemic, we decided to quarantine the healthy -- something that would have been unimaginable a short time ago.

The rioting, combined with the damage to lives, careers and wealth done by the lockdowns, all the arson, looting and destruction of property, and the ruination of the economy is meant to give the King of Aphasia, Joe Biden the opportunity to run against Trump’s lousy economy and riots. And now, closed schools as well.

...Democrats are assuming that with full control of the media, they can convince people that all this is Trump’s fault. And if they can keep the election close enough, they can steal it with illegal voting, illegals voting, and illegally stealing votes -- that’s why they are now questioning, with frightening synchronicity, whether Trump will leave office when he loses, while simultaneously warning that it will take weeks to count the votes (they’re loading their car trunks with “lost ballots” as we speak).

The Democrats have created an agglutination of economy-killing lockdowns; closed schools; property-destroying, sanguinary riots; electoral fraud; and media calumny and lies. All to be used against a president who was virtually guaranteed reelection mere months ago.

...It is one thing to ruin the lives of adults over something political but another entirely to do it to children. The saddest part of it all is they just might succeed.

Later tweets of interest tonight

Liz Wheeler tweeted,
Please tell me how banning restaurants from serving alcohol with pizza BITES vs allowing them to serve alcohol with a WHOLE pizza has anything to do with COVID-19.

THIS IS A REAL DICTATE.

CA Gov Gavin Newsom is so crazy it would be laughable if he weren’t such a tyrant.

Byron York tweeted,
Biden says federal law enforcement is 'brutally attacking peaceful protesters' in Portland. Has he seen reports of what is happening at the federal courthouse? Accuses Trump of 'stoking the fires of division' when rioters are literally setting fires...

Keeping colleges closed this fall is far more likely to stop the spread of communism than it is to stop the spread of COVID.

John Stossel tweeted,

Some notable quotes and tweets today

Senator Josh Hawley said,
They did have the right to do what they did. They were standing on their own property. Let’s just review the facts. They’re on their own property, they were carrying lawful firearms they lawfully possessed, there were trespassers who had broken down a gate and were coming on to their property and the couple said “get off our property.”

…This prosecutor is totally out of control. This is an abuse of power. You want to know what abuse of power looks like? This is a textbook example. James Lindsay tweeted,
Taking to social media and accusing someone, especially their business, of failing to sufficiently support causes like BLM is extortion.

Federal officers blinded in Portland

Danielle Wallace reports in Fox News,
At least three federal officers in Portland may not recover their vision after earlier this week demonstrators, who have shown up in crowds of over 1,000 for more than 50 consecutive nights, shined lasers in their eyes and threw fireworks at a federal courthouse, officials said.

During Monday night's confrontation, one person also threatened to cut off the water supply to federal officers inside the building.

Federal Protective Service (FPS) Deputy Director of Operations Richard “Kriss” Cline said at a press conference on Tuesday that a crowd of more than 1,000 “rioters” surrounded the Hatfield Federal Courthouse and began removing plywood coverings before attempting to throw objects – some of them incendiary – through the windows at federal officers inside.

They also vandalized the building with spray paint, blocked adjacent intersections and set several fires.

“When officers responded to put out these fires, glass bottles were thrown and lasers – which can cause permanent blindness – were shined in their eyes,” Cline said. “We have three officers who currently have eye injuries and they may not recover sight in those eyes from those laser attacks.”

The FPS has purchased anti-laser glasses that federal officers are now wearing to prevent eye injuries.

Kings of the universe

A few days ago, I read that Kanye West was dropping out of the presidential race. Since then, I have seen stories that indicated he is still in the race. The satirical Babylon Bee has the true story.

LOS ANGELES, CA—Kanye West has dropped out of the presidential race, several sources confirmed today, after Elon Musk offered to instead make him president of Mars.

"America is great and all, but being president of Mars would be the greatest of all time," West said. "Of all time."

Musk said he had a great conversation with West where he convinced him not to aim too low but instead to "shoot for the stars."

"Kanye has way more potential than just being president of America," Musk said. "Frankly, being president of the U.S. is beneath him. Mars is where it's at. It will be way better than any government on this planet."

West then showed Musk his crude drawings for a rocket ship to Mars he'd designed in his spare time, called the Yeezymobile. The Yeezymobile is made of "space metal" and runs on Chick-fil-A peanut oil: a "100% environmentally friendly" design, according to West.

"And that big fin on the back adds at least 1,000 horsepower," West said.

"I love this guy's enthusiasm," said Musk as he looked over the drawing. "We'll have to make a few changes so the craft will obey the laws of physics, but this is a great start. Hey, who are those two stick figures in the front?"

"That's me and you, Musk. Me and you," West said, looking up at the stars and putting his arm around his entrepreneurial friend. "We are gonna be the kings of the universe, my friend. The kings of the universe."

"We live in a time of personal timorousness and collective mercilessness."

In Persuasion, Emily Yoffe writes in part,

There might seem to be a contradiction between being fearful and fearless, between weighing every word you say and attacking others with abandon. But as more and more topics become too risky to discuss outside of the prevailing orthodoxies, it makes sense to constantly self-censor, feeling unbound only when part of a denunciatory pack.

Institutions that are supposed to be guardians of free expression—academia and journalism in particular—are becoming enforcers of conformity. Campuses have bureaucracies that routinely undermine free speech and due process. Now, these practices are breaching the ivy wall. They are coming to a high school or corporate HR office near you.

Will the United States become a failed state?

In the Daily Caller, Chris Farrell writes in part,
One thing is for certain: Should Barr/Durham not bring indictments and go to trial against the officials who organized the coup against President Trump, then the United States will become a “failed state.” The compromised justice system would be held in contempt by the people it was designed to protect.
